These arent newsletters anymore. They are just black lettering, dull and horrid. WHY did square take away all the stuff that made a newsletter pretty??? There wasnt enough to begin with, now its all gone and totally ugly.
Hey there 👋 I totally hear you — design matters, and a well-styled newsletter can make a huge difference in how your customers feel when they open it. The recent changes did simplify Square’s email editor a lot, and it’s definitely missing some of the fun creative tools from before. But you still have options to bring life (and clicks!) back to your emails 💌✨
Even if the layout options are limited now, you can create beautiful header images, banners, and dividers in Canva (or similar), and simply upload them into the email. Use your brand colors, fonts, and a fun seasonal theme to bring the visual personality back.
Square still supports:
Buttons (great for CTAs!)
Image blocks
Info blocks
You can use contrasting sections or image + text combos to break up the newsletter and add hierarchy.
Use:
Short punchy headers
Emojis 💅🎉✨
Text blocks for stories, tips, or highlights
Even without bold styling options, layout and tone can make it feel less "black & boring."
Square still supports HTML email uploads — meaning you can build your own newsletter template in a more advanced editor (or copy-paste from another email builder). Great for those who want 100% design freedom.
Some sellers now design their emails in Canva (or Mailchimp) and then import into Square — OR link to landing pages for visual-heavy parts like lookbooks, menus, or announcements.

WRONG, it is not missing some of the tools, its missing everything! And no, you cannot add anything to make it look better. Its plain, black and white. You can add only your own banner. You cannot have but black and white text, and its plain text. This is BS.
I am leaving this hosting site, it has gotten cheaper and cheaper and zero customer service.
No it doesn't. This answer is copied, generic, and completely false.
