I saw a post similar to this question from 5 years ago where the response was that the idea was a feature request. I want to know if it’s possible now to have the customers tip go towards the loyalty points. So if the product is $8 and they tipped $2–is there a way to make it so that they would get 10 points (one point/dollar spent). Obviously that’s a simplified example that doesn’t included taxes or anything like that but hopefully it explains what I mean.
thanks in advance!
Hi @web4. Currently this is not possible and would be a feature request for a possible future update. Square Loyalty was designed to only give points based on actual product/service sales. This is the way most sellers use it because we don’t want customers getting points for funds that don’t add to our bottom line — like sales tax, tips, etc.
Anyway, if you feel strongly that Square needs to consider adding this as an option, you can head to the Ideate Board and submit a feature request.

We're a small charity thrift shop. Any "tip" at the register is treated as a donation to our charity. So yes, tips do contribute to our "bottom line" - the money we raise that goes to our charity. (Long ago I requested the word "tip" be configurable so we could change it to "donation" - no movement yet. Even though we start an explanation before the tip screen appears, many people are programmed to mindlessly hit "no tip" and before our explanation that it's a donation sinks in. So yes, the wording really does really hurt us.)
When a customer's total comes to $19.83 & they round up to $20, in their eyes they're spending $20 at our thrift shop for our organization, & thus should earn the 2 points (our system is $10 earns 1 point). When they gripe, then - on a new transaction - I have them re-enter their phone number at the customer screen, and I manually add the missing point, then I clear the cart. This is a lot to ask of our elderly volunteer cashiers that come in for only a couple hours each week.
@Lynn_TRU I understand and appreciate your reasoning here. But nothing changes the advice I gave since Square currently does not support this.
If you want Square to consider adding this feature you must submit a feature request here. That is the only way to get something on the teams’s radar.
Please note I’m including the new feature request board link.
Also @Lynn_TRU this thread is about awarding loyalty points. It doesn’t seem like yours is. So it’s never a good idea to confuse and hijack a thread about a different topic for your own purposes. Create your own thread, please.
I am not sure you want this to be active anyway. You will be paying out rewards on money that's not even going to your company, unsure why you would want this.
