Credit Card Contracts

I'm trying to protect my business from chargebacks. I've created contracts but some customers have not signed them. Am I still protected? If they don't sign them in a certain time the contract expires and I have to send them a new one? Is there an easier way?

Hi Madrigal15,

Just a thought here but, if a contract would ensure that the customer won't try to do a chargeback, don't you think this would be the standard for all businesses.   Many businesses will even display signs that say "All sales final" however, it's technically not true as the customer can still dispute the credit card transaction.   One of the best ways to protect yourself is to ensure that you are using a chip reader, if you're using only a magstripe reader, the liability is on you.  Chargebacks will happen but, if you have a clear return/refund policy that will help reduce the odds.   Perhaps others here have additional suggestions.

Hi @Madrigal15 - I see this is your first post in the Seller Community so I'd like to officially welcome you! 🎉👏 I happy to provide you with some additional details on Contracts and Disputes.

Cardholders can initiate a payment dispute or chargeback by asking their bank to reverse the charge. But you have a better chance of avoiding disputes—and when they do happen, of convincing your customer’s bank that you’re in the right—by following a few best practicesAttaching a Contract is one of those best practices but as @JK_Fiber_Art stated, this is not guaranteed to fully prevent customers from disputing payments.

I hope this information is helpful but please do let me know if you have any additional questions.
