Can I set it up so only certain clients can collect loyalty points?

I'm going to start offering a subscription/membership at my business and one of the benefits I want is the ability for just them to collect loyalty points.  Is there a way to have only certain clients collect Loyalty points or is having it open to everyone to only option?

@christiemawhoever is enrolled into your Loyalty program will collect Loyalty points, so if you only want select clients to earn them, you'd have to restrict enrollment and participation in your Loyalty program to those certain clients. The Loyalty Program doesn't have the ability to select certain options and benefits for individual participants...it's all or nothing.

@HC_Charlie Thank you for responding.  I'm a little confused on your response, if you could clarify please.  So you can restrict enrollment to only be a certain group of clients or not?  In terms of the ability for certain options or benefits for individual participants is not as important as I'm just looking for a certain group to all receive the same benefits but particularly just a certain group to receive loyalty points.

@christiemasorry for the confusion. If you use the Loyalty program, there is only one set of benefits and that applies to everyone enrolled. And the earning and use of points/stars/etc is pretty much the whole Loyalty Program. There really isn't any other component, so if you're depriving some people the earning and use of points, the Square Loyalty program isn't going to give them anything else. It sounds like you're giving out other benefits that wouldn't be administered through Square's program.

You cannot create two or more different levels of benefits, and assign certain customers to different tiers of benefits. Everyone enrolled is essentially put into the same group, and the benefits (and how they earn those points) is the same for everyone. So if someone is put into the Square Loyalty system...they will earn points.

If you want to create two or more different groups of customers that do not earn points, you'd have to do some manual workarounds. This would kinda look like this example....

when you setup the ways customers earn points, you can tell the program to only give points for the purchase of "certain items" or "categories". You'd then have to create those items and categories and ONLY use those for the people you want to earn points. Honestly, this isn't the easiest way to administer a loyalty program, and depriving some people from ever earning points isn't a "best practice" of a loyalty program. The people you're not giving points to will more than likely receive Square communications about the program points...which they will NEVER earn, because you're restricting this.

I'd advise against trying to use the Loyalty Program like this; it's just cumbersome and messy to administer and takes the ease out of it...and IMO creates an unfair atmosphere for your customers.

@HC_Charlie Thanks for your response and I think I get it now.  I'm creating a monthly membership club for my business and I'd like for just the members to receive loyalty points among other benefits.  Just wanted to add this as an extra bonus and incentive to sign up for the membership but will think of something else.  Thank you.

You could absolutely use Square Loyalty for your Membership club customers...I just wouldn't enroll any one who isn't part of that membership. If you want to give out other benefits to general customers, you could do that, but I wouldn't use Square for that...Keep Square Loyalty for your Membership.

@HC_Charlie Yes, but when talking with Square support they stated that the only way to enroll a customer is having to toggle the "ask at POS" off and on depending on the customer (whether or not they want to be or are a member).  That would get to be an inconvenience having to do that with every other customer daily.  Unless there was a way to enroll them ourselves manually?

@christiemaYes you can enroll customers manually. Once you have Loyalty program turned on in your dashboard, you can go to Customers ... and then view the individual customer's detail. There will be a button to enroll that customer, and you'll have to enter a phone number. This is the way customer's are individually tracked. You'll need to do this manually, and with each customer, but you can do it. Just a bit of work on your part.
