Anyone ever had this situation? Prior owner refuses to transfer ownership.

Prior owner refuses to transfer ownership and SQUARE won't transfer ownership unless prior owner responds???

Hi @charlesC1, we appreciate you reaching out.

 

As @TheRealChipA mentioned, the Transfer of Ownership process must be followed. The existing owner of the account must be able to sign in to their Square account on their Square Dashboard, verify their identity, and then transfer ownership.

 

In the case that the prior owner refuses to transfer ownership (and you aren't wanting get legal involved), you may need to start your own Square account and begin processing that way.

Hey there @charlesC1.  I’ve seen this happen a few times.  Unfortunately Square’s hands are tied here.  Short of a court order telling Square to do this, they can not just take your (or anyone’s) word for the fact that you should now own an account that someone else owns.  It would be illegal and unethical to do so.  Your only recourse here — if this is that important to you — is to retain legal counsel and hope that works.  This is a legal issue only.
