From what I have read this is not true.
Google is giving up it's domain hosting business and is selling it to Squarespace. Squarespace is a completely different company to Square (confusing, I know!).
With domains you are free to host them with which ever registrar you want and everything should work the same. The only thing that may vary is the renewal costs.
If you don't like the idea of Squarespace then pick your new registrar. One you've done that you generally only need the domain password which should be accessible via the Google dashboard and initiate a transfer.
If all this seems too hard then I'd suggest just letting the transfer happen but be sure you familiarise yourself with the new providers login and dashboard so you can access your domain config in the future.
