Newbie - First attempt to sell tomorrow

Hi All,

I am a part time artist and have really suffered with sales during lockdown as most my sales are from shows and galleries. I discovered that in the UK you can apply for a Pedlars Certificate for £12.25 per year that allows you to sell you wares on the streets of your country based on the 1871 act as long as your stall is mobile. This means you can wheel you stall to the end of most markets and trade along side the market stall holders without having to pay £20 - £50 for a stall as long as you don't sell food.

I have built my art display barrow, I have my certificate, I have my paintings and I now have my Square thingy to take money. Tomorrow I am going to Winchester market to peddle my wares.

I have kept the pricing simple, the paintings are all either £150 or £200 and not planning on using stock control so hopefully I will cope with the technology.

Any hints or tips welcome but I think I have most things covered.

Welcome to the Seller Community @NicksArtStuff! I hope the market will go well for you tomorrow.

I'm going to tag in some of our Super Sellers who can offer better insights than myself @Sam_400º @MJD @Twiggy

We also have some pretty interesting articles on our Town Square blog which go through guide for new businesses, market trends etc. which might be of interests!

If you have any question about Square, let me know and I'll do my best to help!

Welcome to the Seller Community, as well as the square ecosystem!

This is really interesting, as a photographer selling prints!

Sounds like you could have quite a successful hustle going on there. My only tip is to just make yourself and your stall approachable, and make it look exciting to attract more people in.

Good luck, any questions feel free to tag me in and I’ll always make an attempt to get back to you, and if I don’t have an answer, tag someone in who will.

Do you think the carbon fibre front fork is too much?

I guess we don't mention the elephant in the room

I don’t notice the difference in that fork to any other, it looks great and carbon fibre will only make it lighter, and the elephant in the room makes it even more exciting, love it!

Woo Hoo! I sold my first painting as a pedlar and the Square card reader worked fine and was easy to use. It will be a couple of weeks before I am next out probably but happy with today.

In the time between now and your next outing, you could set up a square online store to keep selling, you can also advertise this site on your stand so that people can keep browsing online if they don’t find what they want while you’re out.
