I am going around in circles here - lots of posts and old threads on this community suggest I can set up without an ABN. But I'm darned if I can work out how.
I am an author and just need to take payments for a few books at an event where a bookseller cannot be present.
I don't have an ABN, and I'm not getting one. I don't have a business name either, just an author name. Can I use Square on my phone for this, or should I find something else?

You can absolutely sign up for Square as an Individual/Sole Trader without an ABN. We’ve also provided a helpful online guide to assist you in troubleshooting issues like this in the signup process. While you may notice a field asking for an optional ABN, please note that an ABN is not required to complete the signup as an Individual/Sole trader.
If you continue to experience issues, I recommend reaching out to our Support Team. They can review the details you've entered and ensure you’re directed to the correct signup flow for an Individual/Sole Trader.

1. Sign in to your Square account.
2. Head to our contact page https://squ.re/3AWfZs2.
3. Go to "Other", then "I don't see my issue".
4. Click "Message us", "Email us" or "Call Us".
Or, if you see the new chatbot help flow, type “support” to bring up a list of contact methods.

I tried again, doing exactly what I had been doing on Friday night/Saturday but this time it all worked perfectly and I can now take Tap to Pay payments. Yay! Perhaps the little men inside the app who make it all work were just down the pub on Friday night?
