How to accept payments on my iPhone ?

Hi, a complete Day 1 newbie here! ๐Ÿ™‚ I have set up the app on my iPhone, but when I try to get paid directly on my phone, (by tapping a card) it says 'Connect a hardware device'. I thought I was able to accept payments through my iPhone only, without having to purchase a device. Thank you for your help!

Welcome to the community, and sorry to hear youโ€™re having trouble with Tap to Pay.


To use Tap to Pay, you will need an iPhone XS or newer, which is running iOS 16.4 or later. Once youโ€™ve confirmed that your device is compatible, youโ€™ll need to set a passcode for your iPhone (if you havenโ€™t already), by going to Settings > Face ID & Passcode. 


Then from your Square POS app, follow these steps:

 

  1. From the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen, tap โ‰ก More.

  2. Tap Settings > Account.

  3. Select Tap to Pay on iPhone > toggle Tap to Pay on iPhone on.

  4. Verify the correct Apple ID is shown. If not, choose Use a Different Apple ID.

  5. Select Agree & Continue to toggle Tap to Pay on iPhone on.

 

Keep in mind that you wonโ€™t be able to use Tap to Pay on iPhone if you log in to your Square Point of Sale, or Square Appointments app using a Device Code. You can find more on this as well as guidance on processing Tap to Pay transactions, here
