First payment help

I have just received a new card reader and am trying to take a test payment. Everything is connected and when I insert an amount and press charge on the app, a single green light is shown on the reader then immediately a payment failed screen appears before a card is tapped or inserted. 

Please would somebody advise what I may be doing wrong.

Mh, that definitely does sound a bit odd alright. Have you made sure that your account is fully set up prior to taking your first payment? Such as verifying your identity, verifying your email address, linking a bank account, etc.? It wont be possible to take payments until your Square account is fully setup and verified. 

 

This issue may also be coming from the app of device itself. When you have a moment, could you try running through some App Troubleshooting steps and some Reader Troubleshooting steps? These are known to fix common issue with both the app and the Square Reader.
