Checkout behavior - skip item detail screen does not work

Hi,

I want to check if anyone experience the "Skip item details screen" does not work on Square Register? I have this setup for some items and it works well. Just recently, the item details screen keep popping up unless the item has no variants or modifiers. This happens on Square Register and Square terminal. if I use Ipad or mobile, the item details screen will not pop up as per set up. 

I check the Square update and system is up to date. 

Does anyone here experience the same issue or it happens only to me?

My team confirmed that there is no difference in the functionality of the "Skip item details screen" across Square devices. It will operate consistently on your Square Register, Terminal, and other devices.

The impact of this setting can vary based on how you've configured your item modifiers. Please review this article (and the related article) to ensure your item modifiers are set up consistently across all devices.

In the meantime, I've also requested that our team take a look at your device settings further from our end to identify any discrepancies. I'll come back to you here with the outcome!

I've looked into this further and couldn't find any documented differences in how the "Skip item details screen" works across various Square devices. Since I don't have a Square Register or Square Terminal handy to test it myself, I've asked my team to check on an available device once they return to the office. This should help us figure out if there's a limitation in the current configuration across Square hardware, or if there's a specific anomaly with your device.

Our team took another look at this and advised it may be easier to call our phone Support Team on 1800 760 137 to take a look at your item configuration in greater detail.


For example, we looked at an item called "Banana Milkshake" with 'Skip item detail' toggled off and 2 modifier sets applied with no required modifiers. In this case, a popup should appear each time you add the item. This popup allows you to select optional modifiers and includes a 'Notes and details' tab, appearing every time the item is added.

Each item behaves differently, and for this reason, we recommend reaching out to our Support Team and working with them on an item-by-item basis. This way, we can better understand your expectations versus the actual behaviour with 'Skip item detail' turned on.

I am having the same issue. Square said they fixed it but they haven't. I am losing sales because the pop-up screen keeps defaulting the to first item size and my employees are not used to the screen not showing. We have lost so much money due to this change.

To confirm, do all of your items have the skip item details feature turned on? Are your item modifiers customized so that at least one modifier is required before adding the item to the cart? Customizing your modifiers to be required ensures that a selection needs to be made before adding the item to the cart, which will trigger the item details screen to appear.
