Can you charge a $1 hold on credit cards to make sure they are valid

Hello. I’m a pet groomer and I’m wondering if it’s possible to put a $1 hold on a client’s credit card to make sure it’s valid. I recently had a client who “accidentally” ran her grooming payment as cash even though she was paying by card on file. I messaged the customer and told her about the error and asked if I can run her card so I can receive my payment. She said yes (all conversations through texts) but of course the card was declined and now she’s not responding to my texts. Any suggestions on how to handle this and possibly protect myself from this type of incident happening again?

Thank you,

Kimberley

Hi Kimberly,

To charge $1 to credit cards when clients are booking, you can set your service as $1 and require a prepayment when booking. Change the display price of your service to be your actual pricing. Clients can still unlock their card for the booking and lock their card during checkout so I don't think this will fully solve your problem.

What did you mean by the client accidentally ran her payment as cash? Do you have a self checkout for your clients? If so, maybe you can do card only if they use self checkout.
