Square Register Item Display Changes after Update

Has anyone else experienced a complete change to how items appear and variations are selected on their Square registers after a recent update?

 

Previously, I could select an item and then select all variations on one screen. Since the update, after I select an item, I have to open another screen to choose variations. 

 

Tech support keeps vaguely telling me that it will be fixed in an update, however, after the last update, it has not been fixed and, instead, there is another new step after selecting the iteme before I can get to add variations.

In your Square POS you can go to settings and choose to turn off the new checkout experience. Then everything will go back to the way it was.

 

On the point of sale, click the three lines down on the bottom right to choose more and then choose settings and then click favorites in the settings and then in there choose the toggle to revert back to the old checkout experience.

Thank you for providing the details @astoriacoffee @DELSNantuckets. I understand how challenging it can be to navigate through a small portion of the screen, especially when dealing with variations and grids. 

 

I passed this feedback along and our team has stated this is an area we aim to improve, but at this time it is not on the initiative.

Thanks, but I think that may work for Square's iOS POS systems. I'm using a Square Register, which has a different interface and I'm not aware of anyplace in that system to revert.

Can you please make sure your device is up-to-date? You should be on version 6.38 which should have a resolution to the item defaulting to the first variation.

 

If your device is showing up-tp-date, can you please provide a screenshot or video of what is happening on your end?

I was able to revert on our Square Register hardware.

It's under settings and favorites. And then you just toggle the switch to turn off the new checkout experience.

 

I went on to the point of sale and went to the three lines down on the bottom right to choose more and then I choose settings and then I clicked favorites in the settings and then in there there was a toggle to revert back to the old checkout experience.

Well I guess never mind any of that! As of today square has taken away our ability to go back to the old checkout experience. It's no longer an option like it was yesterday. We are in spring break and slammed and now I have to figure out, along with my team, how to navigate this new display and it is just not friendly at all. And many of the things that we normally can do, we no longer can.  😞

@BofBArtStudio Good news! Our Advanced Support responded quicker than expected. They confirmed that you should still have the option to revert to the old checkout experience.

 

Note: Starting April 1st, the option to revert to the old checkout experience will no longer be available.

 

Have you tried again, and are you still experiencing difficulties in returning to the old experience?

It's a little better now, but still not what it was before. At least I don't have to dive into as many dropdowns.

 

Regardless, are you stating tnat the new "experience" will be mandatory on April 1? I have to ask how in any way this new interface is an improvement. What I used to be able to do on one screen now takes a bunch of unnecessary steps. 

 

It appears that nothing has changed for iOS users. Will they also be forced to use the new "experience?"

 

Any insight as to how this is an improvement is most welcome.

Yeah the option to revert back to the old checkout experience is still not available on our iPad.

 

I guess it doesn't matter much if it's going to go away in 12 days anyway. 😞

Yes, I guess April 1st is April fool's Day and it's going to be quite the fools joke on all of us.  My team keeps giving me pouty lip and sad faces begging me to find a way to go back to the previous interface. And I told them there's nothing I can do.

Any luck on a fix to this? This new layout has been an absolute disaster for our company. We are actually losing money on this because the layout hides our service options to the point we miss or forget to add them on or don't realize they hadn't been added on because it forces you to keep hitting "Save" on everything.

 

I called support and they had no clue what I was talking about or a way to fix it.

 

I posted a similar thread that provided no help either.

We keep getting phone calls from Shopify and seriously thinking of switching after all the support issues we have been having and the lack of basic functionality that still has not been added for years since we started using the register system. 

 

Square needs to focus on core features/function of a POS system that we need instead of glammy things never work and actually make our work harder.

This whole situation is ridiculous. All I know is that supposedly the opportunity to revert to the previous user experience will be provided again according to a support person I spoke with. Of course, he didn't know when.

 

Why anyone would prefer the current setup is a mystery to me. And, of course, no one at Square can tell me why the change was made.

 

i know one thing for sure, I would hate to work for Square's tech support. There seems to be know communication between them and the engineers.

 

I too am looking into switching services.
