Has anyone else experienced a complete change to how items appear and variations are selected on their Square registers after a recent update?
Previously, I could select an item and then select all variations on one screen. Since the update, after I select an item, I have to open another screen to choose variations.
Tech support keeps vaguely telling me that it will be fixed in an update, however, after the last update, it has not been fixed and, instead, there is another new step after selecting the iteme before I can get to add variations.

In your Square POS you can go to settings and choose to turn off the new checkout experience. Then everything will go back to the way it was.
On the point of sale, click the three lines down on the bottom right to choose more and then choose settings and then click favorites in the settings and then in there choose the toggle to revert back to the old checkout experience.

Ok, for all of you following along at home, I just discovered a setting that dramatically improves this supposedly better experience.
On your register, do the following:
- More
- Settings
- Checkout
- Variations, Options, and Modifiers
- Switch to "Quick Select"

Thanks for that! This situation is still horrible, wish that more of the screen was used instead of 1/3rd, and its still causing errors in properly choosing items and charging customers.

Can you provide a screenshot of what you are seeing on your end? What app version is the Register on?

Looks like version Square Register 5.49.0025 & Square for Retail 6.46.1.
I don't know if there is a way to take a screenshot, but here's a photo of what we're talking about. It's hard to choose what variation you want when only one third of the screen is being used on the right hand side. This used to pop up in the middle of the screen much larger, and was a lot easier to navigate. The grids are overwhelming - having them under a category, fine, but at the product level, its just too much.

Thanks for letting us know - but your boxed answer isn't cutting it. In one sentence you tell us that our issues are not on the initiative... and in the next sentence you mention working on a solution . Which is it?
You guys need to get your priorities straight. Your customers HATE this update.

I apologize "my cookie-cutter reply" was confusing for you @DELSNantuckets . As I stated above, our team received this feedback, and they acknowledged the issue with the narrow blade. They plan to fix it, but it's not on the roadmap currently. Therefore, I cannot provide you with a specific timeframe for resolving this issue. I understand as a business owner this reply is incredibly frustrating, but this is the truth and all the information I have currently. If anything changes, we will reach back out here! I am sorry again for the inconvenience.

Another fun twist in this update is how difficult it is to add items with options. If I add an item and select an option and then the customer asks for the same item with a different option, when you add the item, Square just doubles the item with the first option.

Switch this back to the previous UI already. This is the most backwards, awful and problematic interface ever. It’s not efficient. It creates problems and a loss of revenue because items with options need to be saved before it’s added to a cart and a lot of times that step is missed or you think you hit save and it doesn’t safe and then you check out the customer without the option applied and a loss of the added revenue.
FIX THIS NOW! WHY IS THIS TAKING SO LONG!

I'm done waiting for Square to stop showing contempt towards their paying customers. I'm leaving the service and will find another. Why does Square hate their customers? Why is Square so arrogant as to think it's okay to just start moving things when they want without an option to opt out. Smarmy folks.

I am sad to read all of this because we, too, have been infuriated about the changes for all of the same reasons you all express above. They are horrible, and I cannot believe anyone ever thought they would be an improvement. We are also losing money because of this. Has there been any improvement at all in almost a year since this post went up?!?!?!?!
