The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Selling business.
I am in the process of selling my business and we are leaving the square register for the new owner. Is there a way to do a factory reset it so they can just start it up like new? Also is there a way to export to their new account the item catalog but not retain any prior sales data? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

this article explains how to Troubleshoot and Reset the Square Register. All your Sales data is tied to your Account and is not Stored on the Register. So when the Rest is completed the only data that will show on the Register is for the account that is signed in.

Now how to transfer your catalog, Customers or other data you wish to the new owner, you can Export these as a csv or Excel file then have the new owner upload these files to their Square account.
Here is more about Importing and Exporting your Square Catalog
The big difference is Export is pressed to Download the catalog and Import is tapped to Upload your catalog. This would need to be don on a Computer not the Register.

Before Reset
- Sign out of all accounts
- Remove saved passwords
- Clear all saved data
Reset Device
Register Settings
→Hardware
→Reset Device
→Factory Reset
- This removes your account information
- Clears cached data
- Returns device to original state
Export Catalog
Items
→More
→Export
→Select "Items" only
- Download CSV file
- Edit to remove sensitive data
- Save for new owner
For New Owner
Items
→More
→Import
→Upload modified CSV

Remove Account Access
- Unlink register from your account
- Remove any saved payment cards
- Clear team member logins

Data Clean Up
- Export necessary reports
- Back up your data
- Remove personal information

- Note any custom settings
- Record hardware serial numbers
- Save important reports

Security
- Change all passwords
- Remove linked devices
- Clear saved payment methods
They will need to:
- Set up new Square account
- Link register to their account
- Import catalog (if provided)
