Why is my new reader not connecting to my iPad?
I have a ist gen square reader and have used it with my Ipad, but bought a new 1st generation as a back up. I am afraid the old one will die when I need it the most, and I will be out without a paddle in the middle of a show. My I pad keeps connecting with the first reader but not the second reader, no matter how far away I put the first one. The new kid is charged up, the Ipad is charged, bluetooth on, I put the old reader outside, and finally the Ipad won't connect to that one. How on earth do I get the Ipad to make friends with the new reader?

I have 2 Square Stands and 4 readers. Each Stand has 2 readers (1 USB and 1 Bluetooth as backup). I have discovered for some reason only 1 Bluetooth reader can be connected at a time to a Square Stand. So to test your Backup reader, you will first need to follow the troubleshooting steps for a Reader. Here : 5673-square-contactless-and-chip-card-reader-troubleshooting
I forget the terminology but basically what you need to do in the Ipad in the IOS Settings is forget your Bluetooth Readers. Then in Square forget all of them there too or vice versa. Then in the Square app connect the backup reader as a New device through the Pairing procedures. Then you can leave that one connected or Forget it in the IOS and in Square and reconnect the main reader again.

It still won't pair with the new reader. I get to the page with the forget this reader button, tap, it turns red, tap save, and it goes to gray again. I tap find this reader, and the old one smirks at me. I will keep fiddling with it, the entire problem is with androlid, I don't have the problem with Apple phone, and it takes tap to pay anyway. I just like to have more than one device to take payments on in case the one I depend on goes kaput.

I finally got the Android Ipad to connect with the new reader. I uninstalled Square on the Ipad, and reinstalled. That worked. And, even better, I could get it to pair with both the old reader and the new reader.
Someone may ask why I want two readers if nothing is wrong with the first one. Well, sooner or later, something will go out on the first one, and it will be at the worst possible time. Now I am reasonably sure if that happens, I have a way to resolve fast, and not have a melt down in front of a customer, and they have no idea what is going on.

Glad you got it to Pair, and now I see part of the confusion.
Android Ipad ? Android has Tablets and Ipad is the name for Apple Branded Tablets. So there is no Android Ipad, just for future reference.
And maybe by uninstalling and reinstalling the Square Software on the device, you got an update that works to connect multiple readers to Square through Bluetooth that I was unaware of.
