Remove automated Pick Up Time...

This display is HIGHLY confusing for customers. It is not clear to customers that they can or need to select EDIT in order to change the Pick Up schedule details. This can't still be undeveloped can it? If it is, I believe it is grounds to find a different platform. This is simply not intuitive for the customer and causes continued operational miscommunications that require follow up far too often. I look forward to getting a speedy response so that if I need to migrate I can begin sooner rather than later.

Hi @Flowers1932.  The photo did not upload to your post.  I think I know what you are referring to, but cant’t be sure.

Thanks!  So, you have two choices.  Based upon the title of your post “Remove automated pickup time,” here’s what you do:

  1. Go to Dashboard -> Account & Settings -> Fulfillment -> Pickup & Delivery.
  2. Click Edit Location
  3. For the setting “Calculate & assign pickup times automatically” select No.
  4. In the next section “Timing” enter a short message about your pickup procedures, as well as more detailed instructions below it.
  5. You might also want to review and change the setting “When should pickup & delivery order tickets print?” As well as other settings here.
  6. Click on Save.

Now when your customers order, they will not see pickup times.  Those messages you entered about will be on their order confirmation and also shown after the order is completed.

If I misread your intent and you didn’t really want to disable pickup times completely, let me know what you order flow is and I’ll try again.

Regards,

@TheRealChipA Yea that's a workaround that's generally offered whenever this topic comes up. The issue is it's currently either an extreme "order is ready "asap" based on turnaround" with an unintuitive method of changing time/date OR removing pickup times completely.

I pointed flower towards the ideate I created regarding this very topic back in February, the work flow of online ordering really needs work.

Normal workflow(really in any order)

Pick date/time for order

Pick pickup or delivery

Shop

Checkout

Square's workflow for online orders:

Shop and Pick pickup or delivery for each item, woe is you if you accidentally mix the two

automatically sets pickup date/time. (no instructions for customers on how to change)

Checkout may or may NOT work based on if customer clicked wrong on any of the items they wanted delivery

There's a lot of friction that doesn't need to be there and it all comes down to simple UI designs.

@PartyManiaMD I don’t disagree.  As I said, it is possible I misunderstood @Flowers1932‘s intent for the question.

You see, in my situation, I do not want pickup times at all.  Customers can place online orders, but we won’t start making them until we see them at the pickup window — ice cream, you know! LOL. For all I knew, @Flowers1932 was asking to remove pickup times completely, and would rather just give instructions that say “orders placed by 5:00pm can be picked up during normal business hours the following business day.”  In this case, they don’t need pickup times at all, so disabling them makes sense.

Otherwise, i agree.  The “default” pickup date and time is misleading and confusing.  I, too, have mentioned that and suggested an alternative.  As I recall, mine was to instead require the customer to pick a date/time, and make one of those dates/times be “ASAP.”  In any case, defaulting is only going to cause confusion, for sure

Oh I can definitely see allowing customized pickup options or no pickup times. like if it says "See employee" when selection date/time that would probably be ideal for you. The current system benefits very few if any people....

Plus the idea that clicking on the clock to change the time and date is cute but ultimately flawed because a good 50% of the calls we get are how to change the date/time. If I get an order that is due within 15 minutes I call because 99% of the time it's not for immediate pickup.

That and having it say "tap here/insert here" at checkout on a square register would make my life so much less stressful. People keep trying to tap the Cashapp QR code because symbols mean nothing to people.

Hi @Flowers1932 , I was about to have deja vu and point you towards the Ideate Boards but if you'd like to chime in here, I actually created a Feature Request regarding requiring customers to pick a time and date when ordering online. It's been a painful part of using Square that it only lets you default to X minutes/hours/days automatically instead of allowing us to require them to select a day/time.

I will continue to advocate for this feature as a priority because frankly it makes sense, it hurts businesses when orders go in on the wrong day, and it creates confrontation when customers/guests make a mistake because it defaults to the earliest available.

Trust me when I say Square is still a great platform but this is a hill I will absolutely die on and try to get changed ASAP, to me it's not worth switching away from Square but I am passionate about UI design and common sense implementation. I also live and breathe Square item library and Square Register and there are lots of QOL improvements that can be made but overall Square is one of the more robust systems out there which means it's also harder to change.

Anyways, feel free to post on the Feature Request I put together and hopefully if we can get enough of a voice they'll actually push through this change! If you can't tell based on my signature it's like the only feature request I think could be a critical improvement to Square's QOL.

I realllly appreciate your feedback. I sort of die thinking about switching platforms, again. So, I will hop on your bandwagon and hope for development.

Have a great week.
