I am trying to add a text box modifier or attribute where my customer can add specific information the title would request (student name/grade)? I have tried the modifier route and the attribute route. I found the spot on the attribute but it will not allow me to click the add and has a hand with x on it.

HI, you can add a text box with Modifiers.
Here are the breadcrumbs and screenshot to assist.
Add Item or Edit Item, Add Modifier, click far right Create New, popup select Typing text into a text box, Text Box Label (name it), input character limit, checkmark Make this a required field or not

HI, I am not familiar with that screen. I believe you may be using the Menu Format template, previous screenshot is on the Retail Format template.

In order to add a text box, you need to use the Modifiers screen in the Online Store editor, not on the normal Square POS dashboard. Go to your Online Store editor, then Items, and find the Modifiers section assigned to the item you want to edit.

I can't find this ANYWHERE after days of searching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What am I missing? Tell it to me like a 2 year old please.
I can't add new modifiers in the edit item page, only turn on/off existing ones with the checkboxes or customize them from there.
From the modifiers page I have the button for create a new modifier set but it looks nothing like this screenshot. It is a little pop up panel on the right and only has the ability add modifiers to the list style and choose locations.

Hi there @Cwarner10, and welcome to the Seller Community 👋
Are you editing items using a full-screen computer, or mobile device?
Are you editing a physical item, or some other item type?
Are you editing from your Square Dashboard? Or your Online Dashboard?
Start by heading to your Square Online Dashboard > Items > Item Library:
Select an item to edit, and scroll down to the Modifiers section > select Manage modifiers:
Select + Create New
Select Typing text into a textbox:
This should get you where you need to be, but feel free to reach back out here if other questions come up!

Hi @Goldneye,
Do you know if it possible to add a cost associated with an added text box modifier? For example, if I want to sell a t-shirt, and an extra option for a monogram to be added, could I only allow that text box to pop up or to be filled out if a cost is added to the item cost?
thanks!

HI, yes, you can add additional fee to the item per selection.
Online Dashboard, Website, Site Items, select the item, Edit Item, click Manage Modifiers, select the Modifier by clicking the 3 dots on the far right hand side, drop down select Edit, Add Choices for your shopper to pick from, Additional Cost, Save

I believe that is for a checklist modifier. If there is a way to add a cost for a text box item, i'm missing it. let me know if you see the option for a textbox!
thanks!

HI, you are correct. What are you trying to list and add cost to? Maybe I can see how to add the cost.

Thanks! (I always find something i want to do that the site isn't capable of!)
here is the link to my item: Personalized QUEEN OF... Shirt (Basic Gildan Tee) | Pigtails and Pearls (square.site)
I'd love to have an "Add a monogram option" for $X with a text box - just so people don't add the monogram without adding the cost to it. The item already has quite a few options, so this may be too cluttered. it may be easier to add another item that includes monogrammed at a different price point. I'd love to hear your expertise and opinion!

HI, how much additional? ex.text $3 just increase the price by $3 and offer Free Personalization.
FYI, you can move the description to underneath the title so it is not at the bottom. Let me know if you want the steps.

Hey Neighbor! (and I have aggie stuff on my site!)
I found your post about moving the description, but when I get to click the item, it opens the item details page (modifiers, options, etic...) and I don't see the options in your screen shot! ug!
I'm sure I'm clicking something wrong, but not sure what!
thanks!

yes I had found this already! But when I get to click an item, I only get the "Edit Item Details" button as seen in my screenshot above, and it opens the Item for editing all details, not as your screen shot shows... any ideas on what I'm missing?
thanks, Liz

HI, no, the free site offers everything the paid plan offers EXCEPT features and options needed when you increase your business.
Please see breadcrumbs given.
It is not from the Item Library, it is on the Editor.
