Time Clock Function Missing (Resolved 2/4/25)

The title of this thread has been edited by a Square Moderator from the original: "Clocking in"

 

Has the clock icon disappeared for anyone else? It is no longer on the check out screen and my staff cannot use it to clock in anymore using the Square POS

Apparently you have to go into settings, then team management, and the. Toggle o. “Use on this device”

Hi all, thanks for your patience here 🙏

Our Engineers have discovered this issue is currently impacting Square Sellers who are using the Shifts add-on on the Point of Sale app version 6.58 on both Android and iOS. As a workaround, they suggest enabling the the Team Management add-on before toggling on the "Track Team Member Time" setting.

You can enable add-ons from your Square Point of Sale by following these steps:

  1. From your app, tap ≡ More > Add-ons.

  2. Select the add-on you want to add.

  3. Select Add or Learn more.

 

Our Engineers have developed a fix to address this issue in the next app update, 6.62 which we anticipate in the coming weeks for both Android and iOS. I'm currently in conversation with our Engineers and have asked them to let me know once the updated app versions are available. I'll update this thread once 6.62 is available.


I appreciate your understanding in the meantime.

Engineers currently anticipate updated versions of Square Point of Sale, which include the fix for this issue, to be released to app stores on the following dates: Android 6.62 on 1/29 and iOS 6.62 on 2/4. The updates are released on a percentage-based rollout, so 6.62 for iOS may not be fully available to all Sellers until end of day today or early tomorrow.

If anyone has updated the app to 6.62 and still experiencing the Time Clock issue, after following the troubleshooting steps as well, please let me know and I'll relay this to Engineers for further investigation. Thank you.

Hey there @nosnip

 

I just checked the new release.  It works exactly like the old one.  I think you might be confused about terms here.

 

“Log out” means that the team member currently using the POS is going away and doesn’t want transactions on that POS to be credited to them.  But “log out” does NOT mean the same as clock out and never has.  In order the clock out on a POS, employees must to to the Clock In/Out screen (location varies depending the POS used) and clock out that way.

 

To be sure I didn’t miss anything, I check an older version vs. the new update.  Log out has never meant clock out, and we wouldn’t want it to.  If it did mean that, then each time a server left a POS and logged out, they’d have to clock in again which just would not work at all.

I'm sorry. Let me reword this.

 

Clock in/Clock out is on the top right.  The employee can clock in. Once they do, the clock in/clock out disappears from the screen - So they can not clock out.

They tried using Log out on the bottom right, just to see if it would work - I understand that just logs the user out of the system.

Question.  What version of the POS are you now using?  And which POS — standard POS, Restaurants, Retail, Appointments?

It is version POS 6.61  I believe POS is the standard version. The icon on my ipad to open it up is grey/black.

After reviewing @_Violet’s  post above, I’m guessing that 6.61 doesn’t have the fix.  However, it has been two weeks since that post and 6.62 is still not available.  So, tagging @_Violet.  Any follow-up information?

There is no update available on my end yet.

 

I did discover if I completely close the ap on the ipad and open it, clock in/clock out is there, so the employee can clock in.  Then when they want to clock out, we have to close the app again, reopen it, and they can clock out.

I will keep checking for an update. Thanks for the help so far.

Hi,

 

We are still having this problem. We are on version 6.62.2.

 

The clock in/clock out is only on the top right when we first open the app. Employees can clock in. Once they do, the clock in/clock out disappears.

 

Now, if we close the app and reopen it, the clock in/clock out is there. If they clock out, it shows them (on the ipad) that they clocked out and the number of hours they work, however in the Square dashboard they are not clocked out.  I have to go into the dashboard and clock them out manually.

 

We have tried all the suggestions mentioned in this thread, and nothing works.

 

We are using Square Point of Sale.
