I have two card readers for two registers and they both stop accepting CC chips and swipe and for customers who don't have tap I have to manually enter payment info. These things are $350
to replace so hopefully there’s something else wrong. One is under a year old and the other maybe 2 years.
@AlwaysBrokeb Welcome to the community. Sorry you’re having trouble with your registers. I don’t own the Square register, but I’ve helped a couple people out troubleshooting,
1. First thing turn the register complete off then back on, sometimes the power cycle will reconnect the front facing card reader.
2. The angle of the chip reader can cause dust and debris to collect inside, you can use a card cleaner, but I have blown into the chip reader slot and that has worked. Also make sure the front screen is clean, build up front people touching the screen can cause the tap not to work.
3. Go to Settings/ Hardware/General/About Register and check for updates. Outdated software can cause the front facing card reader to disconnect.
4. Check your hardware setting. Go to Settings/Hardware/Card readers. Confirm that the front reader shows up. If it’s not then try to reset the connection. Steps are below.
5. Reset Connections.
A. Power down the register.
B. Disconnect the power cable.
C. Wait 1-2 minutes, then plug the register back in and restart.
This forces the register to reinitialize everything.
One last thing. If the register is moved a lot the internal cable could be loose or partially seated. The screen may work, but not enough connection to make the card reader work. One word of caution, if you open the register to check the cable your warranty could/will be void. Before opening it up I would contact support or check on the warranty return page listed below.

Hopefully this information will get you back up and running.
