We recently had a transaction appear in our Square account for the sale of a gift card. However, we do not sell any eGift cards through our website or store, nor do we promote or offer them through any of our channels. We actually only use Square for invoices and instore direct purchases. We do not sell online through square and we do not sell gift cards on any platform.
We refunded the gift card sale, that appeared to come from a gifting company.
But how is it even possible that a company purchased a product through a site we don't use on Square and purchase a product we don't offer??
The response from Square support was a long email about recognize fraud or credit cards coming from fraudulent places. They never knowledged the problem that someone purchased something we don't sell through some backend Square loophole.
Hey there, @Yelibelly
This is a very intriguing report, and I want to take a closer look for you here. Do you have the link to this Square Site you mentioned?
I will keep an eye out for your reply here to get to the bottom of this as soon as possible.
Hi JJ, thank you for responding! There is no site to link because we don’t sell directly on Square as a website. Our website, online store for our business, is actually run through squarespace. We only use square for invoices and in store purchases. We received a transaction notification that someone purchased an E gift card through Square. However, we don’t utilize that website option through square and we don’t sell gift cards there or on our Square space site. We were trying to figure out how someone could’ve made that purchase.
Just want to jump in for a moment here, @Yelibelly!
Do you have a screenshot of the notification by any chance? If you are not comfortable sharing it publicly in this thread, feel free to send it to me via a private message as well. I want to look into this further and see how this might have happened.
Thank you for joining Square's Early Access Program. We'll confirm your acceptance shortly.
