How do I create a subdomain with the domain I bought from Weebly?

[Note: The title of this thread has been updated by a moderator.]

Hi - I have a domain bought in weebly and hosted in weebly. (www.cemccp.com) How do I create a subdomain (done this in many other hosts) to be something like www.subdomain.cemcpp.com

I have searched the community and there are several references to external domains, free weebly and so on, but not my query. Any help appreciated Smiley Happy Thanks.

Hi there!

This is actually a simple task to accomplish.

After logging in to Weebly, click the Domains tab, then click the domain. In the center of the page you will see DNS RECORDS. Click EDIT.

Now, click +Add Record, and select "A Record" from the "Type" drop down. The "Host" will be the subdomain you want, and the "Points To" is the IP Address which you can copy from your other A Records. Now click Save.

Once you have created the subdomain, it can take up to 24-48 hours for the DNS change to propagate.

Once the domain is created this way, how do you publish to it from the weebly editor?

Hi @Nemesis You can publish a site to a subdomain of a custom domain as long as you are on a paid plan. You will also need to change the site address to the subdomain. Did you already create a subdomain?

You can actually ignore that "www"; while we show it there when adding your site address it won't actually add it to a subdomain.

Hey!

I've had a blog on weebly for almost 9 years. The layout of it is something I wanted to revamp but the way it was initially set up prevents me from doing what I want. I own my domain but created a new free weebly blog. I want to make the new site (sydneepercy.weebly.com) my current domain (livelife-yourway.ca) BUT I want to have my old blog be a subdomain something like "archive.livelife-yourway.ca"

How would I go about this, following your above advice?

Thanks in advance!!

What you'll want to do then is make sure that archive.livelife-yourway.ca is pointed to the same IP address you are using for livelife-yourway.ca, then change the address of the website to the subdomain. That'll also free up the domain name so you can use it with another site.

Oh, I just noticed that your domain was bought from us; this means it's already configured correctly so you don't need to do anything special for that subdomain to work.

Once I have created the subdomain, how do I access and edit it?

Hi @Pokewawa Can you clarify what you mean by access and edit? Are you referring to the subdomain itself, or your website?

Hi,

I am referring to my subdomain. I can access and edit my normal paid domain but I'm struggling with accessing the subdomain.

By access and edit, I mean being able to go into the editor and choose a theme, change my pages as usual, etc.

Thanks for your help.

Hm.. I don't see any sites connected to a subdomain in your account. What is the full subdomain, please? Perhaps you have multiple accounts.

I'm not sure if the subdomain has "set up", but I followed the top reply's directions:

I added an "A Record", the host name (which should be the name of the subdomain, right?), and copied "points to" from the other "A Records".

Are you able look at my DNS Records and see if everything is done properly?

Thanks for your help.

Hi @Pokewawa I apologize for the misunderstanding. Will the subdomain you created be the main site address? Or are you trying to add the subdomain to a separate site?

Hi,

I want the subdomain to be part of my normal domain, and if one would click on the name of the subdomain on the top right hand side (where the different categories for the websites are, like Home, Contact, etc.), then they would be redirected to a seperate URL of the subdomain.

Is that possible?

Also, I started with the free site but then paid for a professional site. Now I have two sites. Is it possible to transfer all content from the free site to professional site, and if so, how?

Thanks for your help.

Is the free site the site you want to use as your new website?

It's possible to have different urls for each page, but it wouldn't be required. Your url for each page will be yourdomain.com/pagename instead of pagename.yourdomain.com

Hi,

1. I want to transfer content from my free site to my paid site, but they are in the same account.

2. I have moved the redirect discussion to a new thread.

Edit: here is the link to the new thread

Hi there. I only see one website in your account. Did you already get this taken care of? Thanks!

We display that in the popup where you change the site address, but we don't actually add "www" to the subdomain address when you publish. If you publish and it's actually there on publish let me know, since it shouldn't do that.
