How do I create a subdomain with the domain I bought from Weebly?

[Note: The title of this thread has been updated by a moderator.]

Hi - I have a domain bought in weebly and hosted in weebly. (www.cemccp.com) How do I create a subdomain (done this in many other hosts) to be something like www.subdomain.cemcpp.com

I have searched the community and there are several references to external domains, free weebly and so on, but not my query. Any help appreciated Smiley Happy Thanks.

Hi there!

This is actually a simple task to accomplish.

After logging in to Weebly, click the Domains tab, then click the domain. In the center of the page you will see DNS RECORDS. Click EDIT.

Now, click +Add Record, and select "A Record" from the "Type" drop down. The "Host" will be the subdomain you want, and the "Points To" is the IP Address which you can copy from your other A Records. Now click Save.

Once you have created the subdomain, it can take up to 24-48 hours for the DNS change to propagate.

To choose a Weebly subdomain, enter the full subdomain in the site address field and hit enter. It should give you an option to use that on the bottom of the site address popup.

It is totally unclear how to set up a subdmain with a paid Pro account and with domain provided by Weebly. Can someone provide exact steps to do this? I've read these posts and still see no definitive answers at all.

Hi again @BBLV. If the domain was purchased through us then it simplifies this for you. You won't need to do any DNS configuration just to use it. Click the Change button for the site on the Settings tab of the website editor, then choose the option to connect a domain you already own. Enter the subdomain of your custom domain instead of the top level domain, then save that.

I am trying to create a subdomain on my website which is through Weebly, however, your instructions don't make sense.
There is no "change" button that you speak of?

I want to set up a subdomain so I can create and link landing pages, can you please advise how I can do this with a Weebly domain and also with another provider domain as I have both hosted by Weebly.

Thanks
Helen

@Bernadettethanks for the quick reply! It was controlled at Yahoo, but I thought I switched everything over to weebly a while ago (about 6 months or so- if it's important I can look it up). Is this something I should call customer service about?

What subdomain are you trying to use with a site, @ROBOROBO? You're welcome to contact our Customer Success team if you want as well, although we're happy to help here.

Hey Adam. Thanks. I'm trying to use my domain for my Shopify store. See below. I haven't set up a subdomain yet, though. I think that's what I'm trying to do.

Hi @ROBOROBO You can setup a subdomain in Weebly like the instructions indicate. Will you have a site with Weebly and Shopify?

Hey Bernadette- Please look back in the thread. It seems my situation is a little wonky, or maybe I'm just missing something. I think I'll just go through customer service, but thanks for offering to help. -R

So I did the same thing. I have a proboards account, and am trying to add a subdomain: forum.mydomain.com as my domain so that it automatically goes to my main website. I tried to follow their protocol for doing so, adding forum.mydomain.com as the address, and added the CNAME as forum and then the POINTS TO: to the customdomain.proboards.com like it said to and even bought a 1 year subscription on proboards for it to work...but every time I type it in, I get a 404 error. What can I do to get this to work?

Hi @Skyeforge Is forum.mydomain.com going to be your main site address? If so, you should be able to add it as your site address, but then you would want to use an A-record for "forum" and it will point to your site IP address.

What is the name of the website? I can verify the IP. Or, are you trying to point forum. to a specific page on the site?

Hey @itsjustaphaze thanks for the information. I just have a quick question regarding your answer.

Now, click +Add Record, and select "A Record" from the "Type" drop down. The "Host" will be the subdomain you want, and the "Points To" is the IP Address which you can copy from your other A Records. Now click Save.

About the "host" information. I am confused, it should be just like en.mypage.com or www.en.vidayvoluntariado.org

I have my domain www.vidayvoluntariado.org and in order to offer it in another language I created a new site adding the en. but I realized that when people is looking for www.en.vidayvoluntariado.org an error message is popping out saying that it does not exist. The only way to go to the (English - en.) version will be through the link that I put on my domain so I want to fix. I adding the en. as as subdomain is not the best idea let me know if you have any tip. Thanks.

Hi @sononato I think it's more common to use en.vidayvoluntariado.org. So you would select A-record, then the host would be "en" and you would point to the same IP address listed for the main .org. Are you familiar with editing the dns from the Weely dashboard?

Hi @pote_web It doesn't look like your domain is registered here. Are you trying to create a subdomain or just connect the domain to the site?

If you want to use a subdomain with a different service, you'll need to first find out from that service how you point a domain to them and then make those changes specifically for the subdomain. Most likely this will involve adding either an "A" record for the subdomain or a "CNAME" record. Whatever service you intend to use should be able to explain what you need to do, though.

Thanks, Adam, but then how do I set my Weebly site to have asubdomain as its site address? When I go to my site settings and try to change the address, it defaults to start with www.  I want it to just be https://subdomain.mydomain.com. I already added an A record with my registrar to point subdomain.mydomain.com to Weebly's IP.

Thanks!
