Having troubles printing a receipt after the fact. If you use the search feature with the receipt number it brings up the transaction/receipt just fine, However, when you say print receipt it comes bact with "Receipt Printed" yet nothing prints out. I have yet to ficure out how to search by credit card - it simply does not work.

Success, an update has recently come down the line fixing this issue. Please check that you are running the most current version of square and that all updates have been installed. Thank you @VanKalkerFarms I appreciate your input and candor. We made our goal and fixed the problem. Sounds like we all may have learned a few things today. Cheers.

To search by credit card couldn't be any simpler.
While in square register click on the menu icon --> click activity --> at the top is a search box where you can search by receipt number, type in the card number, swipe the card, dip the card, or NFC the card.
I typed in my card that I run for tests on new hardware or for examples to new employees and it pulled up all 7 transacrtions I have done since 2011

@VanKalkerFarms And where would I be getting these card numbers? All I have is the last 4 digits? When I put in the last four nothing comes up. Even if it did I can only assume it would not print just like the receipt number search will not print. Am I missing a step?

If all you have is the last 4 you can search by last 4 in your square dashboard.
https://squareup.com/dashboard/sales/transactions
the search in activity is if you have a customer in front of you looking to return something and you can just swipe the card to find the transaction.

Let’s digress - [I AM] Having troubles printing a receipt after the fact. [NO CREDIT CARD PRESENT - MR. CUSTOMER HAS LEFT THE BUILDING] If you use the search feature with the receipt number it brings up the transaction/receipt just fine, [NO WORRIES AT THIS POINT] However, when you say print receipt [PRINT] it comes back with "Receipt Printed" [BAD PROGRAMMING] yet nothing prints out. You asked how to search using the last 4 digits. I answered how to, from your dashboard search with last 4 digits you can get the receipt number, then you can type that number into the search box in the activity menu item.
I have printed 1,000s of receipts post customer over the years. And just to be safe that something hasn't changed since we closed for the season, I went and hooked up my iPad 5 minutes ago and did a swipe search with a card and was able to print the receipt, typed in a receipt number and was able to print the receipt, and manually typed in the card number and was able to print the receipt. Every one printed within a second of me pressing print. So since I can't replicate your issue I can't help with it.

My question and others - Are you pringing from the cash register [Star printer] or dashboard [any printer]? And if so, are you entering in the entire credit card number or just the last four digits in order to print? This is extreamly important. If you are printing from the dashboard - I too have printed 1,000 of credit card receipts after the fact. My one and only question is how to get the cash register receipt to print after the fact. PLEASE answer my question.

printing from Square register on an iPad to a receipt printer. I have never printed a recept from the dashboard but may use the dashboard to find the transaction.

I did 3 today before I posted to verify I was able to by searching via credit card and receipt number, and randomly picked 5 others from activity from the last few months and they printed fine too.

Did you input the entire credit card number or just the las four digits?

As I said in a previous post you have to search in the dashboard if all you have is the last 4 digits and then take that receipt number from that search result and search in the Square register activity menu. You can not search just by last 4 digits in the Square register Activity menu.

Yes Van I a very aware of what you said. It is also what I said in my original post. Looks like I just received an update to spuare register: "Improvements we've made: We launched a feature recently that lets you search your transaction history... Sounds like their may have been a glitch in some of our Register apps. @Amez1974 this may help you as well. Check your updates.

Yup it needed that update from 9/25 seems to be working now - knock on wood! Thought I had automatic updates set up, but I guess not!

Then we are using two different versions of square and so is the person listed with the same issue. I too cannot print refunded receipts nor can I print searched receipts on my cash register.

I'm running Square register 4.49.1 on my ipad and it printed.
and the Square register Beta version 4.5.00005 also printed.

@Feedback2016 and @VanKalkerFarms, I think I can help clarify. When you issue a refund for a cash transaction, the receipt automatically prints. When you issue a refund for a credit card transaction, the receipt will not automatically print (the rationale being that your customer might have an email associated with the card and want the receipt emailed instead of printed).
You can still print the receipt if you want to by tapping "Issue Receipt." I agree that the way this works is not quite what you'd expect, so will bring this up with our product team.

I see, @Feedback2016. Sounds like updating the app worked for @Amez1974. @VanKalkerFarms is also running an up-to-date app. Can you try updating both the app and device software?

I'm having the same problem with credit card receipts! If I have a customer come back and return an item I cannot print a receipt -- it says receipt printed but it's not. Cash return receipts print just fine. Credit cards receipts are not printing after the fact.
