My item descriptions on my website are now syncing with my item library (they had not before). This is an issue because now when I create an invoice or receipt, the lengthy item description shows up and is not necessary in these applications.
BEFORE EXAMPLE :
AND NOW :
When I go to my sync settings, I do not have the option to turn off item descriptions.
WHY? I need this to be turned off and why did it change?

Look at setting for printing Invoices or Receipts for your Online Store. The Description was probably always going between the two since your Online stores needs to describe the Item the seller is looking to buy online. I am not sure where this setting would be in your Online store but I would check there. I turned off my Description for Printing on my receipts instore, since I have the SKU on the digital Receipts. That you can do here : dashboard/business/receipt .
Not sure if that will do anything for what your trying to do from the Online Side of things though.
I would look for something similar possibly in the Online settings.

Hi Keith,
Thank you for the tip to turn off printing item descriptions on my receipts. I got that to work! Yay.
Now I need to find out how I can turn off item descriptions on Invoices.
For online, there is no option to turn off the descriptions. I included a screen shot above from the Item Syncing section and it is not there.

This solution works on invoices, too! While not clear that it does in the settings, I just opened an invoice, went to print and the item descriptions are off. YAY! What a relief. Saving so much paper and ink.

Here is a tip after doing changes to things for printouts, to save Paper, I choose Print to PDF to get a 'Printout' and see what it looks like before sending to a printer.
Yes some of the wording is not always clear or a programmer puts something where us business owners would not think it would be, and the setting could be buried somewhere else.

My printer software automatically displays a print or PDF preview before printing so I am able to see what is there before printing. That's what tipped me off on the long item descriptions suddenly showing up when they previously had not.

I believe that sync button was taken away... we used to have it turned off and then.. one day... it was gone and worse every item that had an "online" description but not an inventory description got "wiped" because Square now defaults to the inventory description. This happened to us back in December and we are STILL finding listings in our online store with no photo and no description.

Yes! This is exactly what happened to me.
Once I realized my online item descriptions were showing up in my item library, I tried deleting the description in the library and immediately caught that it removed it from online as well. Luckily I did not do it to all items.
Since I began using Square 3 years ago, the descriptions in the item library were always independent from my online descriptions. I don't understand why it changed and more importantly why we don't have the option to go back.

Imagine our surprise when about 2 weeks before holiday season about 25% of our online descriptions were gone! Engineering decided to take that option away (why we never got an answer) and here we are almost 6 months in.. still correcting it.
I was told that engineering was able to go in and reupload our item descriptions but that didn't happen.
