Have a Square Contactless Reader Model S8..says it's not for use in the US.
Is this in fact for China or another country? And if so, which one? It says Model S8 CHINA on the back.

there are different readers between US and Canda (maybe more but that's the only one I know is different due to the debit tap processing in Canada) but China just would mean where they made it as Square doesn't serve China yet for credit cards.
where did you buy it?

It was bought as a part of a bulk purchase, so I'm not sure of it's origin. I just know the info previously given which is the Model Number and that the few I've tested all have the same error message. Is there anyway to find out what country they're actually intended for?

Thanks for the heads up, @VanKalkerFarms, and sorry to hear about the trouble with this, @TRDSLLC. That does sound strange—it is true that the Contactless and Chip Reader model is country-specific. I think it would be best to have a member of our Customer Success Team take a closer look into the order. Please send your Order ID to us directly—we'll be able to take a deeper dive from there. Hope this helps get you in the right direction.

they stated they weren't ordered from Square so maybe from a store closeout or auction. So determining the origin isn't possible, so I guess either way contact support and see if they can track down the units in a different way. like a serial number.

Ah, yes, our Customer Success team can track down the origin with the serial number—apologies for the confusion on that. @TRDSLLC, please send us the serial number along with any other order information related to this purchase. That will help us get to the bottom of what's happening.
