Exporting items and reimporting

So I'm syncing items with QB online and of course some of the characters in Square don't work in colossal dinosaur QB so to make sure I'm matching item for item, I need to have everything match. Unless anyone here has a magic tool for fixing this more easily, I'll have to import the corrected file (using the same file to upload into QB) back into Square.

Can i make the corrections in Square with an exported spreadsheet (I've already dealt with the SKU issue conversion) and reimport the corrected file without creating new products? Presuming the token is what keeps it from creating a new product? Should it be converted to new Excel file or left as CSV?

As I see this is your first post to the community let me welcome you here.

Now to answer your Question there is a way to do this with Excel.

1) Download your Square Catalog as a csv.

2) Download your QBs Items.

3) Open Excel a new sheet.

Then using Power Query and Get data and Merge you can basically have 1 giant sheet of all those headers.

You could just change the SKU or the GTIN or MPN to merge the data and change the cell fields to match the ones in QBs

I had to do something similar, because I use QBs Desktop, Online Store, and Square.... none of my Item names matched but Item is QBs is my SKU from Square, and Same for my Online Store.  Now all 3 currently have a field called MPN or in Square Vendor Code.

So basically using Power Query and the MPN field to link all 3 sheets I was able to convert the correct Header fields and Truncate the names in QBs to work.

Now near the end of the video before he tells you to Close and Load the data, you can delete Columns that would not be needed for your QBs import.  The nice thing with this is if you replace these files with New current ones and press Refresh in the Saved excel workbook you created the PowerQuery in, the data will be updated automatically from then on each time.

Here is a 10 min youtube video on Appending the Merging in Excel.  Merging starts at about 5:40 seconds.

YouTube Video link :  How to Join Tables in Excel | Merge or Append Data

Apending - adding Like Data down the columns Example multiple months of Sales from Square

Merging is adding More Columns with a Linking column SKU - GTIN is possible... Differnt Items Catalogs but have a Common Column

Headers do not have to be the same but the data in side should be the Same.  For Example I use Vendor Code to MPN in Quick Books, then my online Store has a Header Manufacturers Code - MPN in Quickbooks.
