It would appear that perhaps this feature is in the works, but I'm asking to find out if I'm missing the ability to turn it on somewhere:
When an employee wants to request a shift cover, the only option is to "Send request to" "Everyone with" the same job title.
Employees should be able to request that a particular employee pickup their shift, and with this screen popping up but only having the "all" option, I'm wondering if that feature is hiding somewhere?
It seems one can only choose individuals for shift happenings when swapping shifts, but people cover shifts for others all the time without giving up their own shifts.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Hey there @bestintentions. So…. Shift cover is a relatively new feature to team. And, as you have already learned, currently it sends the cover request to everyone with the same job title, with no other options. There is nothing “hiding” or “missing” in your settings. The capability to target a cover to a certain person (or a limited group of persons) is just not available.
I’m part of a beta that has been ongoing for Teams and Scheduling. I’m going to send a private message to the admins of that beta to see if they might be willing to come here and give us any more information. But, for now, what you want to do does not exist.

Thanks for this! It sure looks like, from the UI, that it's something they're working on. I sincerely hope that's the case.

@bestintentions I would agree with your assessment. We’ll see. I have reached out to my contacts and the wheels are in motion. I’ll let you know what I’m able to once I have more information that I can share. Just please understand that I am under an NDA so I can only share what I’m authorized to share.
In the meantime, may I suggest that you submit a feature request to the Square Staff and Payroll team on the Ideate Board. Then post a link to that request here. I’ll upvote/support it and that will make your request official, too.

@bestintentionsI just received word from my beta contact at Square. Basically, as we both suspected, currently you can’t do EXACTLY what you want to do — which is to target a cover to a specific employee through the Team app. While this is something that is known to be desired by some sellers, so far I don’t see it as something that is going to be added anytime soon.
For now, your best and cleanest workaround is to instruct employees who already have secured a specific team member to cover a shift to contact you so that you can make the change for them. The manager/owner shift editing features in the Team App (or if you are using it the Dashboard App), will allow you to do this quickly and will also notify both employees of the change once you have made it. For now, this works even if it is an additional step. I hope that you don’t have a lot of covers regularly so that this isn’t a huge burden.
Otherwise, it would be a good idea to follow the link to the Ideate Board that I supplied above and submit a feature request. After you have done this, come back here and post a link to that request so that I can upvote it and add my own comments/use cases.

Hi @bestintentions, I wanted to thank you for your post and personally welcome you to the Square Community!
Appreciate you @TheRealChipA, for chipping in as well and reaching out to your contacts on the Teams and Scheduling beta. The workaround you suggested is a great idea in the meantime.
@bestintentions, if that workaround isn't sufficient for what you need at this time, I also would suggest posting on the Ideate platform. Project managers review those Feature Requests board for new ideas and improvements, so it's a great way to get your ideas out there!
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns in the meantime.
