How to create a discount to sell at the actual cost of your item?

Hello! We are a non profit that has a need to discount an item during a sale to it's specific cost we have entered for that item. Does anyone know how to do that? I can make many discounts but I need one that specifically looks at the cost of the item and adjusts it to discount it to that. Please help!

Hello @CC99 thanks for your post. Do you have inserted anywhere in your items the cost of the item? Or do you just have the retail sale price listed? If you have the cost (perhaps you track "cost of goods sold"?) for each item, I don't think you can create a dynamic or changing discount that will auto-calculated and then apply this discount.

However, you can manually add sale prices to each item, but you have to go into your Square Dashboard, and into each item and add your sale price. You'll have to know what your cost per item would be so you can manually add them. See the screen shot below for an example on where to click to add your sale price. Note, the sale price would show up and be available to anyone shopping on your website; you cannot have this be used as a discount that would be entered into as a coupon type of code.

Hi Charlie,

Yes, I do. I have a vendor listed and the cost right there for that vendor. Ya, that is too bad that square does not have that feature. It seems really to access that field and do the math.

No, I definitely don't want to make use that field because, I wouldn't want it available to everyone.

Thank you though for the ideas.

@CC99 ;

Square does not have the ability to do as you request but the best IdeaI have is:

  •   if you have a Markup of All your items say cost times 2 or 3 etc.  You could create 1 Discount behind a manager account that would need the code to be applied.  So if the Item cost you $4.00 for example and the Markup is 2X or 2 x 4 = $8.00   you could have a 50% discount locked be hind a managers pin or code etc.   This only works if all your items have the same markup of 2X in this example.
