Can I collect text fields from my customers using mobile POS?

I photograph athletes during their competitions. My customers are usually the parents of the athletes. Online, I ask for the Event Name, and Athletes Name (email is part of the online checkout process but I need that as well).

 

Parents can order online anytime, or they can visit us at our booth we have setup and order the photos there. We use either an iPad or iPhone to charge them for the order but all we can add is a Notes area. I require this information because I a link to download the digital photos a few days later, which means I need to know which athlete to process and what email to notify the parent that the pictures are ready to download.

 

I need to ask for Event, Athletes Name, and Email Address in the mobile POS system. How can I do this?

Do you just enter the amount or do you have prices setup on the POS grid(Favorites)? This is how we do it when we take custom orders.

Custom Amount

1. Enter the amount.

2. Tap review sale.

3. Tap the Custom Amount and another screen will pop up. In this screen you will see notes. from there you can enter your ino and tap save. That will tag it to the amount.

If you already have prices added to the Grid(Favorites)

1. Tap on the price or name for this example Minky Blanket.

2. Then tap on the Minky Blanket under Current Sale.

3. a window will popup and fdrom there you can add your notes that will be tagged to the sale.

Is there anyway to add more fields so that if I hand the iPad to the customer, they know what I need them to write in there?

@mikeysweet You are talking about something like a order form? I don't know of anything like that in Square, but I do know of a way to apply that info into the Notes section to hand to the customer.

1. Go to Settings /Keyboards/Text Replacement.

2. Tap on the "+" beside the search window

3. A screen with text replacement will appear with Phrase & Shortcut.

4. In the Phrase enter something like: Please enter School Name. Your Name and Email Address below:

5. In Shortcut put a single name like frm.

5a. Just be aware what you put in the shortcut will trigger the phrase. This can be in an email, text anything. That is why I put frm for the phrase, not a word.

6. When you make a sale and open the notes on the sale just type frm and press enter and it will automatically fill in your phrase.

 

I know this isn't the simplest answer, but it does tell the customer what to enter and may speed up the process. Another thing you could do is for every school you go to, just go the settings/keyboard/text replacement and enter the school you are at. That way you just need the customers name and email. You would just have to remember to change each time, that might be a hassle.
