Created a modifier, can I include a text box with it?

I am marketing a webinar, and in addition to a single ticket, buyers can add a second ticket for half the price of the first one to send to a friend or family.  What is the best way for me to get that friend's email address?  Can there be a text box on the order where they list the additional email address and it is sent to me when they buy?

Hello @cameronjpu ,

Yes, it is possible to make a text box to meet your needs.  Go to "modifiers" and create one with these settings;

Let us know if that works for you, and if it does, set this response to "best answer".

Good luck!

While I do appreciate the help, I don't quite understand how this question got marked as solved, since it is not, and I certainly haven't yet marked it as solved...

Hi @cameronjpu

Us moderators will mark the best current answer on a thread as we moderate. If a new best answer becomes apparent, we will mark that as the best answer.

Now that I can see you are using a checkout link vs. having this item available on a Square Online website, I can provide a better solution.

You can add a textbox at checkout by going to the "advanced settings" on your checkout link and see where you have the option to add titles for 2 different custom fields. I have attached a video that highlights how to do this. This should give your customer's the opportunity to type that email address in for the add on ticket.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you, but I created the modifier, added it to the selected items, but it doesn't show up at all when you go to the purchase page.   All I see is what i saw before, which is the check box to buy an additional ticket, but no box to enter an email address.  Here is the checkout page, if they allow me to post links here:  https://square.link/u/WpPPhv9t

any suggestions?  I know to go into the modifiers and tell the site that that new modifier should be available on that item, and I've done that.  When I go to edit the item page, the new modifier is there, but I don't see anything I can or need to do to make it show up on the live page.  Thanks!

Thank you - I don't see where "going to the "advanced settings" on your checkout link " can be found though.  In your video I see "online checkout" at the upper left corner but I can't find that anywhere in my Square dashboard.  Can you let me know where to start from to get to that point?  Thanks -

In your Square dashboard, you should be able to go to "Payment Links" and the same set up should appear.

Man... this seems so unnecessarily difficult.  Is there any way you can tell me all the steps?  Instead of just 1?  I know it must be frustrating for you as well... but I'm a computer expert, which doesn't make me an expert at Square settings, though you'd think it would get me closer than most people.

Anyway, I click Payment links, and I see all of my items, but I see no way to get to the screen you're showing in your video.  Under payment links I see all my items on the right side, but nothing called Advanced Settings.

EDIT: OK for others reading, I finally figured out the issue, and that was that the actual square pages don't, in fact, show what the video above shows (anymore?).  I had to open the payment links, then click the item in question, then when it appears on the right side, scroll down to the details section, click Edit, then you will see the custom box.

For those helping me... thank you, but I don't know if you just didn't know that what I was seeing would be in no way similar to what you were telling me to do or what, but maybe this will help you to understand.  If I see something totally different from what you see... maybe mentioning that fact would help?  Instead it took me 48 hours of pulling my hair out trying to figure this out.  Not that you weren't helpful, but telling me the wrong thing to do over and over again (whether on purpose or not) was very frustrating.

I totally get your frustrations and this probably could have been a less frustrating experience for you for sure. I probably should have asked for screenshots of what you were seeing instead of assuming and creating the disconnect. My apologies here and I appreciate the feedback for sure.
