At my whits end with variations/inventory
I just did some updates on my site (Square site, hosted by Weebly) and have ran into an issue with products that have variations. If a product is listed by itself with no variations, the customer can only add whatever we have in inventory to their cart. Example, if we have a listing for a single bracelet that has 19 in inventory, they can only add 19 to their cart. However, if we have a bar of soap that has 7 different scent variations, they can add hundreds of one scent even if our inventory is only 20 of that particular scent.
This is obviously a major problem because it opens us to the risk of overselling a product and having to contact the customer to tell them we don't have enough to fulfill the order.
I tried to use Square online support and was passed back and forth between SEVEN people (no kidding) for almost 3 hours, Square for Retail, to Square Online, to an "elevated" specialist and back around. I finally gave up and hope that this community can offer some insight/assistance.

Hello @LesliePotE thanks for your post. I'm sorry you're having trouble with this. Not sure, but do have Stock Tracking enable for each of your variations? I did a quick test on my own inventory...(if I checkout on my own store, it doesn't allow me to add beyond what I put into my stock.) Is the column in your item stock shown differently than my example below?
You could also trying creating a brand new item as a test, add some variation with stock tracking, just to see if the new item behaves the same way.

Hi, I really appreciate you responding to my post. Yes, my stock tracking is enabled and looks just like yours so I am not sure what the issue is. One of the 7 Square representatives that I spoke to said that my dashboard was set up correctly but no one has been able to tell me why customers can add more to their cart than what I have in stock.

HI @LesliePotE ,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues. I know @HC_Charlie has provided some guidance, and I'm a bit confused to why you are having issues as well. I'm just curious what these settings are set to for your site;
I'm just guessing at this point but I'm wondering if any of these might be causing your issue??

Hi, thanks for the response. Yes, my settings are all correct and the products that don't have variations will show as out of stock when the stock reaches 0. The items with variations though are able to be sold at whatever quantity the customer enters regardless of how much of that particular quantity is in stock and therefore the variation never shows as out of stock. Maybe my online store is just jinxed.

@LesliePotE I haven't seen this issue on our site. Sounds like a bug. I would continue with Square Support. It may take multiple calls, but it would be beneficial not only to you but perhaps others who may be experiencing the same issue.
