Has anyone found a way to assign a specific discount to a client?

Has anyone found a way to assign a specific discount to a client.  So that all their appointments and retail auto applies the discount?

For example, I sell a membership option.  Members get special pricing on everything.  Now that I have a good amount of members it is getting hard for me to remember to go in and apply the discount and I'd like a way to automate it within the customer profile.

Is there a way to do that?

Hey Doran,

Tried to answer your question a couple times and I guess it doesn't like when I copy from help forums for some reason so trying this way.

You can create a custom group inside your customer directory.  Browse to your Square Dashboard > Customer Directory and hit create group.

Manual Group - You would add members to it

Smart Group - You could actually do a custom smart that add them based on purchasing the membership.

Once done make your way over to Items > Discounts.  Create a discount with your percent or however you do it and set the automtic discount to apply based on customer group.  You'll see a little toggle.

For any advance cases where someone needs a discount based on group and items let me know but that would be through the API and is very advanced.

Let me know if this helps or if you have questions!

PS saving incase I get deleted again lol

Yes. Let me see if I can outline some steps...

  1. Create a Customer Group for Members:

    • Go to your Square Dashboard.
    • Navigate to Customer Directory
    • Create a group called “Members” (or a similar name).
    • Add your membership customers to this group.

Pro Tip-- You could also create a custom smart group assigning them based on purchase of a membership item.  Let me know if you need help with this.

  1. Set Up an Automatic Discount:

    • Go to Items > Discounts in the Square Dashboard.
    • Create a new discount and configure it (e.g., percentage or dollar amount off).
    • Set it as an Automatic Discount.
      • In the discount settings, apply it to the "Members" group.
      • This ensures the discount applies automatically to transactions involving customers in the Members group.

I use this for a couple different groups as we speak.  If anyone needs to assign to a group but also needs specific items I can explain that as well.

I'm around for any additional questions.  Have a great day!

That was strange, thought I responded to this, came back and it was gone!  Maybe I got deleted lol

We actually do this already with several groups let me see if I can outline some steps. I hope it works with appointments to so let me know!

  • Create a Customer Group for Members:

    • Go to your Square Dashboard.
    • Navigate to Customer Directory > Groups.
    • Create a group called “Members” (or a similar name).
    • Add your membership customers to this group.

Pro Tip-  You could also do a custom smart group and base this on them buying a certain membership.  Let me know if you need help there.

  • Set Up an Automatic Discount:

    • Go to Items > Discounts in the Square Dashboard.
    • Create a new discount and configure it (e.g., percentage or dollar amount off).
    • Set it as an Automatic Discount.
      • In the discount settings, apply it to the "Members" group.
      • This ensures the discount applies automatically to transactions involving customers in the Members group.

There are also ways to limit group discount to specific items but unfortunately that's only available through the API for advance users.

Let me know if this helps you or if you have additional questions.
