Scanning Bar Codes from Label Printing Scales on Square Register
Hi,
Question 1:
This official Square document:
says that scanning of barcodes from label printing scales that support UPC-A and EAN-13 bar codes is supported on Square Terminal, Square Register and iOS devices.
However, this community document:
stated that this functionality does not work on Square Terminal and Square Register, but the issue is being worked on. It does work on iOS based devices, though.
Does anyone know if this has been fixed? And if not, when is it likely to be fixed?
Question 2:
The first document I mentioned is from the US support site.
Would this functionality also be available on the Australian version of the Square retail software?
I believe the two versions of software are sometimes different.

Hi @Mortadeli,
Thanks or getting back in touch with us here in the seller community 👋
You're right, there's some differences between the hardware available here, and in the US. In Australia, the CAS PD-2 digital scale is compatible with the Square Terminal, Android devices, or the Square Stand. We're working on expanding the list of compatible scales for the Australian market at the moment! We'll keep you updated on any news here, and will be sure to share an announcement, too.

Arie,
It seems that you answered different question than the one I have asked.
Let me explain.
The CAS PD-2 digital scale is supported for the direct connection through USB to the Square Terminal, Android devices, or the Square Stand. This is not what I asked about.
I asked about completely different solution that involves a label printing scale that works stand alone. In this solution the communication between the scale and the Square system is fully asynchronous through scanning of a barcode label previously printed by the scale. The barcode printed by the scale contains SKU and price. The barcode reader connected to Square system reads the barcode and the Square system recognises the SKU and the price and correctly tallies everything up.
Note that this solution does not require any specific scale to be supported, as the scale is not connected to the Square system.
The only thing that is required is that the scale prints its barcode in a specific formats: UPC-A or EAN-13.
As long as the printed barcode is in the right format any scale can be used.
This solution is described in detail by the following official Square document:
I would appreciate if you could answer in the context of the above document.
My questions are as follows:
Question 1:
From the format of the URL I deduce that this document is from the US support site, as it has us/en in the name.
Does this document apply also to the Australian market?
Question 2:
This official Square document:
says that scanning of barcodes from label printing scales that support UPC-A and EAN-13 bar codes is supported on Square Terminal, Square Register and iOS devices.
However, this community document:
stated that this functionality does not work on Square Terminal and Square Register, but the issue is being worked on. It does work on iOS based devices, though.
Does anyone know if this has been fixed? And if not, when is it likely to be fixed?
Thanks and regards

Apologies for the misunderstanding @Mortadeli!
While the barcode formatting info from the first article you linked also apply for Australia, only iOS based devices are supported here at this time. We don't have a timeframe for this feature being available on the Square Terminal, and Square Register - if you haven't already, join our Beta Community, where we're often looking for sellers to test out features ahead of release. We'll update this thread with any news and tag you to keep you in the loop, too.
