Has anyone come up with a workaround for the fact that there is no Modifiers for Bundles.
I own a small pub (about to open), and have recently purchased retail.
What I am trying to do is
Sell Wild Turkey in our bottleshop, as a bottle for takeaway. Which will be under the Category "Bourbon Bottles Takeaway"
Then I want to be able to sell it as a **bleep**, so 0.04286 of a bottle, in the bar, under the Category "Bourbon Nips Bar".
So all that works with bundling.
Except, you than have mixer. Now they can get these options with mixers:
- 7oz at $1.50
- 10oz at $2.50
- 15oz at $3.80
- Pint at $5.10
- No Add (free)
But bundling you cannot do modifiers.
How I did this previously (in my venue where I stocktake manually not thru Square) is I have modifiers for each, with the price point.
Can any help me with a workaround it so I can sell in the way I am chasing. If it makes sense. They need to be under seperate categories, as the bar has so many options.
(Now perfect world those modifiers would also be counted in stocktake, but baby steps)
I am a bit cranky, I am about 15 hours into onboarding, and this is a major hurdle.

Hi @ChickenRacer,
[Edit: Funny enough, our platform is censoring "n-i-p," so to avoid seeing "bleep" in every other sentence, I'll be replacing the term with "shot" instead.]
I saw you hadn't received a response yet, so I wanted to jump in and share a few ideas. First off, as you’ve already discovered, Square currently doesn’t support modifiers with bundles. Additionally, modifiers aren’t tracked separately in the inventory system since they’re intended more for item customisation rather than inventory management. That said, we’ve received similar feedback from other Sellers, so I’m hopeful that we'll see improvements in this area down the road!
In the meantime, I’ve come up with a few workaround options. Just a heads-up, while these ideas might simplify things in some ways, they might also add an extra step, as workarounds often do.
With Square not allowing modifiers for bundles right now, here’s what I can suggest as possible alternatives:
1. Use Variations Instead of Modifiers for Mixers
You could set up variations for each size of shot that you sell, while keeping the main product (Wild Turkey) as one item. Here’s how it would look in Square's item setup:
Item Settings:
Item Name: Wild Turkey Shot
Category: Bourbon Shots Bar
Price: This might be set to a base price, or you might leave the price empty and set it per variation.
Variations (Shot Sizes):
7oz shot - $X
10oz shot - $Y
15oz shot - $Z
Pint - $W
Each size will be a variation under the same Wild Turkey Shot item, but with different pricing. This allows you to keep track of each serving size, separate from the full bottle.
2. Bundle Items in Separate Categories
You could keep the two types of products (bottles and shots) in separate categories, with the mixer modifiers applied to the shots products. Here’s what that setup might look like:
Categories:
Bourbon Bottles Takeaway (for bottles)
Wild Turkey Bottle - $XX
Bourbon Shots Bar (for shots)
Wild Turkey Shot (with variations for sizes: 7oz, 10oz, etc.)
Modifiers for Shots (on shot sizes):
7oz - $1.50
10oz - $2.50
15oz - $3.80
Pint - $5.10
No Add (free)
Each category would show the relevant products, but the mixer options would be tied specifically to the shot sizes, and you would be able to track sales and inventory by category.
While the above suggestions won’t allow for strict bundling, I hope they offer some alternative approaches to managing your inventory.
Let me know your thoughts—I'd be happy to bring this back to our Square for Retail team for further review if necessary. 🙂
Note: I'll mark this as "Best Answer" for now to highlight the information we've provided in response to your question, in case other Sellers are looking into this. We can update it as the conversation progresses.
