Hi,
I own an embroidery business and I would like to allow customers to add their names to the back of certain garments, I am currently using variations for size selection, what should I do to allow customers to choose sizes, choose if they want to have their name on the back of our garments, what it is, and I need it to increase the price of the original garment.
Thanks.

Hey @PirieEmbroidery,
To address your needs, I recommend using modifiers for online orders specifically.
Here's a step-by-step guide:
Step 1: Create a List Modifier for Name Tag
- Sign in to your Square Dashboard and navigate to Items & Orders > Items > Modifiers > Create a Modifier.
- Enter a name (e.g., โDo you want a custom embroidered name tag?โ).
- Select List Modifier as the Modifier Type.
- In the New Modifier field, type Yes, and specify the additional price for this option (e.g., $10.00).
- In the next New Modifier field, type No and leave the price field blank.
- Click Save.
Step 2: Create a Text Modifier for Name Entry
- On the Modifiers page, click Create a Modifier.
- Enter a name (e.g., โEnter name here if purchasing a custom embroidered name tagโ).
- Click Save.
Note: Text modifiers do not have associated prices, which is why this is a separate step from the List modifier.
Step 3: Apply Modifiers to Your Item
- Go to Items & Orders > Items > Item Library.
- Select the item you want to modify to open the Edit Item page.
- Under Modifiers, click Add and select your created modifiers.
- Click Save.
- Reopen the item to access the Edit Item page again.
- Next to your List Modifier, click the three dots (โฆ) and select Customise.
- On the Customise Modifiers page, set both Required Modifiers and Maximum Modifiers to 1.
- Press Save.
This setup allows customers to select their size, decide if they want to add a name tag for an additional cost, and enter the name they want embroidered.
Please see the screenshots below for reference:
For in-person orders, consider creating an additional item or modifier (e.g., โCustom Embroidered Name Tag Add-onโ). Add this to the sale at checkout, and include a note with the requested name.
I hope this helps! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
