There seems to have been an update to “POS” tiles (renamed from Image) in items and photos taken with the camera no longer have “crop” option. Is this something i can turn back on?
Take many photos of products (beads and stuff) that then go to the online store and don't have time to take them and edit externally before loading. Need yo do it on the fly.
Currently have about 7500 item (excluding variation)

Hi @BonneyStGarage,
I have some good news to share after following up with our team!
They’re actively working on reintroducing the cropping feature into the Square Point of Sale app for item creation. While I can’t provide an exact timeline, they’ve assured me it will be included in the new flow which may be available in the next app update, expected at the end of October 2024.
So, it’s just a waiting game for now, but the feature will be returning to the Square Point of Sale app.
Thank you for your feedback regarding your experience with the Photo Studio app; I’ve passed that along to our team for their review.
If we can help with anything else, please don't hesitate to reach out! 🙂

Thanks for your post, @BonneyStGarage!
The item image crop feature has also been rolled back for me, so it looks like this feature isn’t currently available on updated versions of the Square Point of Sale App.
In the meantime, you might want to check out the Square Photo Studio App. It syncs automatically with your item catalog, allowing you to capture and edit photos, and instantly update existing items or create new ones directly from the app.
If you have any other questions, please let us know. 🙂

Thanks Katie. I’ll have a look. I seem to be able to crop when I create a new item but if I try to add or update the image in an existing it doesn’t. As I sometimes load a few 100 by upload this is a bit of an issue.
Also just noticed that the Photo Library is just hanging when I try to upload an image to existing items. This has just started today 😢

Thanks for following up, @BonneyStGarage!
To clarify, is your Photo Library not opening when you try to upload an image to an existing item in the Square POS App? Would you mind sharing a screenshot of what you're seeing on your end?
Thanks! We'll keep an eye out for your reply. 🙂

Hi Katie,
I have tried again and it seemed to be hanging but after about 60 sec the photo library has opened. Tried it again and it is loading in about 10 -20 sec. Just seems to be a delay in loading - using an IPhone 11 with OS 17.7.

Hi again @BonneyStGarage,
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you!
We’ve raised the cropping query with our internal team to check if there are any plans to reintroduce this feature to the app. It still seems to be available on Android devices, so I’ll keep you updated on any developments.
In the meantime, you can still take a photo when creating a new item on the Point of Sale app, and use the zoom in/out function as a workaround for cropping. I understand this isn’t ideal if you’re working with pre-edited photos.
For those, using the Photo Studio app remains the best option. If you continue to experience load times longer than 15 seconds, please let us know, so we can escalate this feedback to our team. 🙂

Hi thanks for the update.
it is mainly the existing items (I have a 1000 or more without photos as they were uploaded via import).
The photo library delay has eased and I am tending to take the photos via the phone camera (set to 1:1) , crop in there and then select.
i have used the Photo Studio but I found it was still slower than just using the camera - I found the background removal for the product I have was a bit hit and miss (and I really don’t tend to remove backgrounds)
would be great if the crop was back in the existing item but can be worked around.
