Starting Cash Drawer for today?

After Update 6.22.2 How do I enter the daily starting amount in the Cash Drawer for a Printer Driven Cash Drawer?  Would show you video of the problem but do not have permission.  But here is the video on youtube:  unable to locate Cash Drawer  My Square Stands could never locate a Printer Driven Cash Drawer but I was always able to enter my Daily Starting Amount or Confirm the amount I have set in Square Dashboard.

Thank you for this video @Candlestore. Since your Cash Drawer is a Printer Driven one, it will not appear under USB cash Drawers. a Prompt for a new Cash Drawer should appear when starting to process a sale. Since you are part of the Retail Profiles Beta I was able to confirm you will have to tweak the Settings on your profile to enable Cash Management.  This Profiles Beta will impact all your Retail applications as it is an Account-wide beta. I recommend reaching out to the Beta Team for them to provide guidance on setting up this Beta for your success.

Any Idea where the settings are that I need to tweak?

 

In my Square Dashboard I have Cash Management on for POS Profiles turned on, then I leave the screen come back and it is Turned off..... so How do I save it to stay ON or enabled?

 

I tried to follow How to Enable Cash Management : https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/6346-cash-management-with-square-for-retail  and even tried to follow the Video in the Link but none of my screens look like this this Page was last updated in 2018.

When I select 'CashManagement'  I get the Manage Square For Retail link then when I choose 'Manage' I get a list of the Paid Fees for Square for Retail.   I then tried again and now I get a Toggle switch to Turn on Cash management, but if I click any other tab such as Invoices then go back to Cash Management the Toggle is off.  No Save button here to keep it enabled. The bottom picture shows the Last Update from Square on How To Manage Cash Drawers from 2018, which none of the screens or video matches anything currently on Dashboard or Retail app.

I got a hold of Square Support about this and was on and off the phone with them a few times, and even had to have them call back because I do not have time as a business owner to be on the phone for an hour trying to find these settings that support is having trouble with also.  We did finally find the settings I had changed as above but were back to Cash Management being OFF.  So while on support we both looked at this was confirmed for my settings and I also turned off Printing And Emailing Cash Drawer Report..... come in Monday Morning and these settings are the opposite way again that I set it up.  So I changed it again today.  There is no SAVE button and can not tell if this will update or revert tomorrow.

 

You informed me that I am in a Beta program, do you know which one I am in or who I can message about this?  The screen you say Should Pop up when I start my day is not Popping up when I do a sale?  So I can not Start the Cash Drawer till I make a cash Sale?  Just had a CC sale and nothing about Starting Cash Drawer.  And when I go to do a Cash Sale am I to tell the Customer Hang on I am unable to start my cash Drawer until I have a Cash sale please what while I count the cash and make sure my starting amounts match???  That is the DUMBEST thing I heard of!!!!   Who thought of that??? They never worked retail and should not be programing a POS program.  Cash Drawer should be able to be started before 1 customer walks in, not when they are making a sale.

When I go to  More - Settings there is no longer Cash Management on a Square Stand to disable Printing or Emailing the Cash Drawer when it closes.  So How do I turn off Printing the Drawer and Emailing it?   When I go to Settings there is no Cash Management.  Now Have Hardware, then Cash Drawers but I get this:

This is because I have a Network Receipt Printer that Controls my Cash Drawer...... So how can I tell Square to Stop Emailing when a drawer is closed and to stop wasting paper in my receipt printer for this when I can look it up on the DashBoard.

Do you see an option to disable the Cash Drawer reports by following these steps?

From the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen, tap ≡ More.

Tap Reports > Current Drawer.

 

I'll keep an eye out for your reply!

No I do not,  I go to More > Reports> Current Drawer then I get:

This no usb found makes sense since I use a network Receipt Printer that Drives the Cash Drawer.  But  from my previous statement the Test Cash Drawer DOES work and opens the cash Drawer.   

I already called support 2 times about this but being a business owner and being open I get to deal with customers too, and can not stay on the phone for half hour to an hour.  Shouldn't the support people know where these settings are for Square Supported Hardware after updates?

Update It is working now.

I already had a POS Profile enabled with Settings, Had to create a NEW POS Profile and set New settings which were the same as the previous ones.  Then Logout of the App and Log Back in.  

 

So here is some Feedback for the Programmers:

When you update the software, transfer our current settings to the Update.  There is no reason why us business owners have to reset all our settings for Cash Drawers, Printers, etc because of an Update.  When we get IOS update or windows updates we do not have to recreate all or personal settings again for those device  and we should not have to do it for our POS systems.  Even when I was on with support Her screens were not matching what I was seeing for how to get to the settings she was trying to have me adjust on my Square Stands.

 I wanted to let you know that I escalated this to our Retail engineers on August 4th and also added the cash drawer problems along. I hope to hear from the before the end of the day today.

I was able to start the Cash Drawer today, I also Did notice that the Open Cash Drawer (No Sale) button has now returned.    To update you, Sunday 8-6-2023 I was on the phone 3 times I believe with support.  The settings for POS Profile do not have a Save button.  After updating the POS Profile and leaving the screen my settings were not changing or being saved.  Even the person on the phone went into my account saw the changes and even did them then went back and they were not saved.  They escalated this too.  Then I got a call back, and we changed the settings again to enter a starting amount and to not have my drawer report printed nor emailed.    I forgot to tell my staff to try to close the Cash Drawer yesterday.  So today I came in and it was still open.  I closed in then my receipt printer still printed out my Cash Drawer report.  Looked at my setting then and they reverted back to Print and Email the report again.   So how do I get these setting to save for a longer period of time then just a few hours possibly?  Like I said I changed it to OFF and Off earlier today and currently they stayed as Off and Off for printing and emailing this report.  Also there are no new destructions explaining these new settings or how to make adjustments.  When I search the forum I get the 6346 instructions link above but those destructions are from 2018 and do not apply to these changes currently.  Yes I used Destructions since they are not Instructions to solve a problem but are just destroying the sanity of people trying to follow them with screens that do not match nor terminology that is no longer matching..... Update these.

I can understand your frustration @Candlestore

 

As I mentioned above you are currently a Square for Retail Beta user. What this means is that you will have features not yet available to the public. Device Profiles (the feature you are having trouble with)  is currently in beta and for that reason, there are no public-facing materials as they are only updated/released once this feature is launched to the General Public. I will however pass this feedback over to the team I escalated this to on Friday for them to be aware of your sentiment and experience.

Oh no I understand, I did not realize this was a Beta testing feature.  I have had no request to join this for Cash Drawer management, just the last test was for Bundling, that is where my confusion is.    Would be nice if on the Beta features there is a little B showing that it is a Test item.  Now I see why there are no instructions on the forum or new videos.  Yes I understand that I am in the Beta Groups to test new features but would be nice to let us know which features we are testing.
