Not Secure

Hello,

I have recently opened a website with Weebly and transferred my domain, however it is coming up 'site not secure'. I have unpublished and published and it hasn't helped. Do I need to wait for a period of time or is there anything else I need to do? Thanks in advance.

Linda

Hey @lindaspence77, thanks for your post. Happy to provide some context for you here.

Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encrypts the data that goes from a user’s computer to your Square Online site and back, making the data exchange secure. This is especially important for online stores, where users will expect their information to be secure while transacting with you.

If your domain is hosted at Square, SSL is enabled by default for you the first time you publish your website. Occasionally, it can take 24–48 hours before the SSL certificate is configured.

How long has it been since you transferred your domain? Has it been more than 24 hours? If so, can you provide me with a link to your website?

If you have a domain hosted by a third party, you can still have SSL on your website. Make sure your domain name is pointed to the correct IP address and that your website is published. Learn how to connect your domain to Square Online in order to automatically enable SSL.

Thanks so much Skyler_ for getting back to me! I had to change the IP address but thankfully it worked. I have to say the support from square was very helpful and reassuring.

Hi I have a similar issue to this, I have had my website for a few years and every year my ssl certificate expires. I am not notified of this by square and I only find out when customers try to access my website and it says connection is not secure.

I read somewhere that we simply have to unpublish and publish the website and it should work but it hasn’t worked for me on this occasion. Can anyone help with this please.

Hi @Earthrefresh, thanks for flagging this and sorry to hear of this experience.

Can you share a link to your site here so that I can take a look? Thanks!

Thanks for trying @Earthrefresh - I had a look at your DNS records here https://who.is/dns/earthrefresh.co.uk and it looks like you have three A records rather than two.

earthrefresh.co.uk A 600 94.136.40.82 looks to be the incorrect one, you'll need to delete it.

  1. In your Square Online Overview page, go to Website > Domains.
  2. Under the domain you want to work with, select Manage > Manage domain.
  3. Under DNS Records, select Add DNS record to add new ones, or Edit by an existing DNS record to edit or delete it.

Once updated, the changes will propagate within 24–48 hours, meaning your site will be live again.

If you need any help with the process, don't hesitate to our team a call directly, they will be happy to go through the process with you.

ok same problem - "did not connect: potential security issue" comes up when I ask a friend to check out my site - catherines-black-garlic.square.site

I can open it on my computer and it looks lovely - I just can't tell someone else an address to use to open it?

Hi @Catherines, sorry to hear you're running into this.

Can you share a screenshot of how this appears for you? When I access your webpage it is secure.

well I would share the photo he sent of his screen but I can't work out how to!

the screen says

Firefox detected a potential security threat and did not continue to www.catherines-black-garlic.square.site because this website requires a secure connection.

www.catherines-black-garlic.square.site has a security policy called HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) which means that Firefox can only connect to it securely. You can't add an exception to visit this site.

The issue is most likely with the website, and there is nothing you can do to resolve it. You can notify the website's administrator about the problem.
