Import Error - Price Format
I am trying to edit the Item Library with Excel.
I have exported to an XLSX format, and edited the contents as needed (minimally).
Upon Import it asks for a Column Assignment for Price Format.
This column does NOT exist in the export and I am concerned to create a new column because I don't know the appropriate content options (we have $US and "variable").
I cannot import the modified XLSX (or CSV) until this is resolved.

@PAA ;
I just checked my XLSX download for my library and Column J Price is formatted as a number and the pricing is 5.00 not $5.00 for the format. Not sure if this is your issue. I have never been asked for Price Format when uploading my csv or xlsx files to Square.
Have you created any Items through your Square dashboard as a sample? Then downloaded the xlsx file? That is how I created my templates for uploading to Square so I knew how each column should be formatted.
It has been awhile since I created my catalog but am continually adding things to it either from the dashboard or uploading a xlsx or csv file.
I am thinking I made the $ assignment when I created my first item using Square not the upload from csv or xlsx file. Try entering one item through your computer with Square Dashboard. Here: https://squareup.com/dashboard/items/library
Let me know if that works.

Almost all items are created through the Square app on our iPad.
Some are created by the Online portion.
Unfortunately, when creating an online item with a Category, it does not equate to the Square category when used on our iPad.
That was the reason I wanted to export all items, manually assign categories and then re-import.
I did create a single item, export, delete top lines (so labels are in Row 1) and then attempt import.
Note that Price Format appears (not in our export) and I cannot assign a column or "NONE".

So do you want the Price as No Price that you enter the price at the time you sell the item?
If that is the case leave the Price Column empty in your xlxs file. Then at the time of sale you will be asked for the price.
There is no Price format in excel files

The issue is the request to define the "Price Format" column for import.
There is no such column in the Export.
In the screen shot snippet you will see the dialog requesting a related import column for Price Format.
Selecting any of the "choices" of variable, 24.95, or 60.00 does not do anything.
Normally, we would select a column heading such as "Token", "Item Name" etc.
There is no "NONE" option like other import fields.
In other words, I cannot seem to provide any proper answer to how to map Price Format.
I do not want to create a fake column lest this wipe out all my prices already in the database somehow.
Thanks for your attempts at helping! So far though, the issue remains.

I agree there is no Price Format column in the Export, but I am not even seeing it when I create a new item in the Dashboard on a computer. See Screen shot :
What happens if you export the Catalog as a CSV file?
The Excel xlxs file sometimes has extra sheets for when people created different units and precissions or components for bundles. I am just trying to figure out how you have the Price Format when creating a new item but I am not having the same Field on the dashboard or an Ipad using Square for Retail....
Are you on the newest update for Square on your Ipad? On a computer the webpages update automatically so that would not be the issue if you are doing this on a computer.
Sorry I can not help and the issue as you have pointed out is you have the extra field that I am not even able to see.

Actually now when I look at my excel xlsx format it has the word Variable in for the price.
I know I use to leave the price blank and Square would ask me to enter the price. So here is what my actual row looks like for my Barcode Miscellaneous:
That is how my Miscellaneous item appears in my xlsx file. Now when I scan the barcode manual entry I am asked to enter a price.
Instructions | |||||||||||||||||||||||
Fill in your catalog information below. Avoid some of the most common errors by making sure each row contains an item name; an item and its variations have the same category and description; GTINs are 8,12, 13, or 14 characters and contain numbers only; and every item referencing an option set has both an option set name and an option value.
Custom or created by Square | Created by Square | Example item | Small | Ounce 1.000 | A12345 | 100% organic soft cotton t-shirt | Apparel | 653412483659 | Visible, Invisible, Hidden | 24.99 | Y or N | Y or N | Sizes | Small | 12.99 | KT's Clothes | ABC123 | 10 | 15 | Y or N | 5 | Y or N
Reference Handle | Token | Item Name | Variation Name | Unit and Precision | SKU | Description | Category | GTIN | Square Online Item Visibility | Weight (lb) | Price | Sellable | Stockable | Option Name 1 | Option Value 1 | Default Unit Cost | Default Vendor Name | Default Vendor Code | Current Quantity Pocono Candle | New Quantity Pocono Candle | Stock Alert Enabled Pocono Candle | Stock Alert Count Pocono Candle | Tax - Pa Sales Tax (6%) |
#miscellaneous-regular | NDU2GE62WOP6CUUNCEHVSYKG | Miscellaneous | Regular | manual entry | variable | Y |
When i import this back to Square I do not even delete the top instruction rows. The Reference Handle and Token columns are auto generated by Square. If they are blank Square makes it a New item and assigns a value to these fields. And yes my Barcode is manual entry. category and variations are blank because this item is a generic item for One off items that were put the Price on the item and could be for multiple items.
