How to disable Tap to Pay and NFC

Hi, when I try to charge using the square reader, it says switch on NFC on phone. And it only works by holding the card at the back of the phone. Therefore the square reader is not used. Why is this happening?

Customers won't be happy to tap their card onto my phone.

Please advise.

Hi @Kaz04, thanks for posting on the Community 👋.

It sounds like you activated Tap to Pay on your phone. Don't worry though, it can easily be disabled if you prefer using the Square Reader instead.

If you have an Android device:

  1. Navigate to your phone device Settings > Connections > NFC and Contactless Payments > Toggle NFC Off
  2. Then in your Square app, navigate to ≡ More > Settings > Hardware > Tap to Pay > toggle off Tap to Pay.

If you have an iPhone:

  1. Follow the link in your Tap to Pay on iPhone welcome email to sign in to Apple Business Register.
  2. Confirm your business information to see your Tap to Pay on iPhone connection and your merchant ID.
  3. From the list of merchant IDs, select Remove and confirm the removal for each merchant account ID to unlink your Apple ID from Tap to Pay on iPhone.
  4. Disable Tap to Pay in the Square app ≡ More > Settings > Account > Tap to Pay on iPhone > toggle off Tap to Pay on iPhone.

I hope this helps, but let me know if you have any questions !

Thank you, very much. I think on the phone, NFC payments were on, hence it kept asking to tap on the phone instead on the card reader.

Appreciate it.

Thank you
