Hi, I have over 1,180 items on my Online Weebly website, and even more on my Square Library. The syncing does not include descriptions, yet I just looked and thousands of my items now have my Square Library descriptions. I sell vintage jackets, so the Online Weebly item description now includes the price I paid for the item, which should only be in the Square Library item description. This will take at least a month to fix all the item descriptions, and I don't think it will stick. Is there a way to revert the descriptions? Why did the development team do this? Can we choose what to sync and what not to sync? All my descriptions are saved in the SEO description, so is there a way to replace the Online Weebly item descriptions with the SEO descriptions? I was hoping to launch my website this month, but clearly that is not going to happen. I could really use some help. Any advice is appreciated, and I hope that the development team can fix this major online issue that is preventing me from publishing my website and using Square/Weebly.

Hi @WestValleyForge. Before I answer, let me emphasize that I am a fellow seller who is just being the bearer of not-so-good news here. Please resist the temptation to shoot the messenger! Ha. Now….
Last year, starting in October I believe but possibly even earlier, Square started posting notices here in the Community as well as sending out emails about what is called Catalog Convergence. Basically Square has been combining all of the item catalogs into one. That process was completed on December 12, 2023, as promised in those emails.
One of the important seller tasks mentioned in the emails was that we needed to make a choice of which description (main or online) we wanted to be THE description once the convergence happened. If we did not choose, Square was going to choose the main description if you hadn’t been a Square Online use for at least 12 months, which seems to be the case for you. That seems to have happened in your case.
I no longer have any of the many emails I got on this subject, nor do I have a link to the announcements here. But I know they happened because, quite frankly, I got tired of hearing it over and over again. However, here is a link to the updated “Square Online Item Sync” help document that resulted from this change.
As far as I know there is no way to reverse this change. If I am wrong about that, I’m sure a Square community moderator will chime in here. But, unless they say something different, the only option is for you to start making the changes, remembering that (for now) you ONLY have one description that is shared everywhere.

Was my post helpful? Take a moment to mark it as a possible "best answer." I hate the term, and wish we could just mark posts as "helpful." But this is our only mechanism at the moment. Just remember "Best answer" should be interpreted as "helpful," and nothing more. LOL. "Best" (ugh) answers help folks possibly find solutions to similar problems they are hoping to solve.

As you can see, there is a little "Synced with Square Item Library" mark on the listing. How can I turn this off?!? I never wanted this and now it will take me a month to restore the descriptions. Online Weebly Site Item Description the same as Item Library Description
SEO Description, what the Online Weebly Site Item Description should be

Thank you @TheRealChipA, that makes a lot of sense. I have been using Square Online for the past few years, but it appears that the default was made anyway. I had the description sync turned off. I must not have seen the messages or saved the preference. It's going to set me back quite a bit, but I guess it isn't too bad because my website isn't published yet. Thanks again. - @WestValleyForge

@WestValleyForge you are welcome. That’s why we are here! I’ll add one other suggestion so that future changes don’t catch you off guard, or at least not as much. This is a link to the Square Product Updates board here in the community. Square posts announcements of important updates here, and it would be a good idea to go there and click Options > Subscribe, so that you get notices (in a daily email) of major changes. Besides a post for each of the changes, @kristen does a post every month that is a roundup of all of the announcements for the previous month. It’s pretty handy!
