Committed Inventory - Not Seeing the Described Behavior

I'm very new to Square and learning the ropes. I have been trying to use the "committed inventory" feature where items added to an open invoice get marked as "committed" and moved from "available."

I've created a new invoice and added the item, then saved the invoice as a "draft" because I am not ready to send the invoice. The customer may want to add more items before they come to settle up. In other words, the invoice is "open" and I want to be able to keep a running tab for them, and each item I add should become committed stock.

 

But this is not the behavior I see. The item in question does not indicate any units have been committed. Is it because the invoice is only a draft?

Hey there @cbono.. I fired up Square AI to research this questions.  First, I asked it "are items on unpaid but sent invoices added to committed stock for inventory purposes." This was its answer, which was expected:

 

Items on unpaid but sent invoices are counted as committed stock, which reduces the "Available to sell" inventory but does not update the stock on hand until the invoice is paid. You can see committed stock linked to invoices in your Square Dashboard or POS app.

 

I then followed up with the question "what about items on draft invoices."  The answer given was:

 

Items on draft invoices are not counted as committed stock and do not reduce your available inventory. Only items on sent invoices that are unpaid or paid affect committed stock.

 

That tracks with what I am finding elsewhere in various Square help documents.
