Square Register with iPad Backup Plus Plan Cost

We are getting ready to for sure buy a square resister setup, and upgrade to the PLUS plan.  my question is if I use an old iPad I have with the iOS app signed into the same location does that count as a "mobile POS" device and get billed another $50/month?  We only want to use this for phone orders or a backup in case the register is down for example or something.  Mostly for call in order is the main use case so we don't have to wait for the register to be free.

It's just not clear as there are specific "Mobile POS" devices defined here: https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/7796-set-up-your-square-for-restaurants-mobile-pos

I don't think it counts that way b/c with just an iPad app you need to key the CC which is a higher fee and that is fine, but we just need a separate way to enter phone orders.

You get billed extra By Location Not device.  So if you have 1 Location and 1 Device the  Plus plan is $89 per month according to this article :5980-compare-square-for-retail-and-square-point-of-sale.    And if you have the 1 Location and 50 devices it is still $89 a month for that 1 Location.  A device is a cell, Tablet, Register, or Terminal.  A Location would be more if your business grows and you rent or buy another physical location that you sell your goods or services from.  Now you can use the old Ipad for phone orders or you could use the Online Virtual terminal on a computer or chrome book.  Since these are both Card Not Present orders the fees would be at the higher rates.  To get the lower Square rates you would need the Card readers from Square or be able to use your Tablet for Tap Credit Card reading.  Which is now available with Iphone and Android devices I believe.

As for if you can use an old Ipad, this would depend how old it is and if it can run the Square software.  I am currently using 2, 7th gen  Ipads in Square stands without any problem.

@Candlestore thanks but I think Square for retail may be different than Square for restaurants which is where I posted and what I was talking about.  They are faily different products in how they are billed for devices and in restaurant a "Mobile POS" is defined here as I originally linked to.  https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/7796-set-up-your-square-for-restaurants-mobile-pos

@CColotti ;

Yea I just looked up the billing for priceing for Square for Restaurants.  This must be something new they started with the billing per device since I last looked at the restaurants pricing.  I saw this; that might help you out with pricing :

https://squareup.com/us/en/point-of-sale/restaurants/pricing

From reading that I would agree that it would be an extra $50 for the mobile Ipad, but you could use a Chrome book and the virtual terminal I believe for phone orders and no extra cost.  Not sure if that counts as another device since you go through your Backoffice to enter the order.

And I am sorry for replying in the Restaurants link I just saw no answers and read the question and missed where it was posted.

You may want to call Square support, which their number is in my signature line below.

@Candlestore I appreciate you trying to answer it but it's still not right.  There is no virtual terminal with Restaurant (b/c of ticket printers, KDS, etc).  I will call support if nobody knows the answer for sure but an "iPad" is not listed on the link as a "Mobile POS" device, my take is that is a device that has swipe/tap/receipt function built in.  There are literally only two "mobile POS" devices listed
