Pre-orders through the POS menu
We are offering Holiday Pre-orders online... this works great, however we would like to take pre-orders over the phone through the POS menu or as a walk-in order... I have tested it and it will just ring up as a regular order... There is no option to run it as preorder.
I am assuming I will have to have a tablet at the register that can take online orders through the square online...
I keep running into so may limitations.

Hi there, @egmorgan,
At this time, Square POS does not natively support marking in-person or phone orders as pre-orders with scheduled fulfillment in the same way that Square Online does. Orders entered through the POS are processed as immediate sales, and there is currently no built-in option to flag these as future-dated or pre-order transactions. We understand that this creates workflow challenges, especially during high-demand periods like the holidays. While using a tablet at the register to enter walk-in or phone orders through your Square Online Store is a viable workaround, we recognize it may not be the most streamlined solution for your staff or your operations.
In the meantime, some sellers find it helpful to:
-
Use custom modifiers or notes to indicate pre-order status within the POS order.
-
Adjust fulfillment dates manually when managing pickup/delivery logistics.
-
Leverage third-party integrations through Square App Marketplace for more advanced order scheduling or management.
If you’d like, we’re happy to walk through possible setup adjustments or discuss integration options that could better support your workflow. Please let us know how you'd like to proceed.
