KDS - Front and Back of House Communication

Can KDS notify a server that an item is ready when a cook marks it as finished? Is there any communication between FOH and BOH using KDS? 

(I'm not talking about communication between prep stations and Expo stations within KDS. I'm talking about communication with servers on their POS device, preferably Restaurants mobile POS devices)

Hey there @Rp3, I am happy to help. At this time KDS will not be able to notify a specific server the item is ready. Just curious how are you wanting the servers to be notified directly? Would they have their own Android device and the KDS app will be available on it? I was hoping there would be something similar to how the restaurant POS receives notifications for online orders. A tab might turn orange to let you know that you have notifications and when you select the tab you can see that a dish is ready, or if there is an Expo maybe that the item has been ran to the table. Similarly, useful notifications could be things like the kitchen needing clarification on a modifier the server sent in or to let the server know that an item that they ordered is actually unavailable.

Being able to communicate without having to wait for the right person to walk by the expo window or via game of telephone between several staff would be really useful.  

In its simplest form even just something on the POS that changes color to let the server know to check in with the kitchen or expo. Some form of these features is common among other KDS providers like Toast, Micros etc.

Communication between front and back of house is one of the most attractive attributes for a KDS for me.

This is a really interesting feature. 

Although some communication is already available, such as notifying of 86'd items, pinging servers individually can be helpful in certain restaurant settings.

I went through our KDS Ideate board here in the Community and couldn't find a request describing exactly what you need. 

I would recommend requesting this feature on that board so that other sellers can chime in and our product team has visibility of this need.
