Team Scheduler Week Start

We are a busy studio and, similar to restaurants, our weekends are the busiest.  What we really need to be able to do is to easily schedule for the weekend in the team scheduler by having each week of the schedule start with Thursday and end with Wednesday.  This would allow for the full weekend of Friday, Saturday and Sunday to be together in the same week which helps tremendously for scheduling our team for all of the weekend events.

Currently, the Scheduler is Sunday through Saturday and I am not seeing where that can be changed.

I did find in Staff->Payroll->Pay Schedule that I could adjust the pay period to Thursday through Wednesday and it looks like that will work great for the adjusted pay period cadence.    Then the team will get their direct deposits every Tuesday for the period of Thursday through Wednesday.

However, even after making that adjustment in Pay Schedule, the actual Scheduler Screen still remains as Sunday through Saturday.

I feel like this is something that should be doable, and I am hoping that there is just a setting that I am missing.

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

@BofBArtStudio From your dashboard go to Staff and Payroll > Shifts > Settings > Schedule. There you will see a setting for “Start of work week.” Change that and scheduling will start on the day you specify.

Was my post helpful? Take a moment to mark it as a possible "best answer." I hate the term, and wish we could just mark posts as "helpful." But this is our only mechanism at the moment. Just remember "Best answer" should be interpreted as "helpful," and nothing more. LOL. "Best" (ugh) answers help folks possibly find solutions to similar problems they are hoping to solve.

for other sellers…. Schedule week is very different from pay week. Don’t try to mix them up. Square gives you the ability to set both, as long as they don’t conflict.

Thanks, @TheRealChipA

Can you give an example where it is a good use case for schedule week and pay week to differ?

Ok.  I think I have set this up to accomplish what I was looking for, as well as answer the question of a good use case for the scheduling week to be different than the pay period week.

I now have it set for Monday through Sunday for Scheduling.  We have events that span Monday through Thursday and we have busy weekends that are Friday through Sunday.  By setting the scheduling week as Monday through Sunday, we are visually able to see how the team is allocated to the different events and busy periods.

Then we wanted the team to get paid direct deposit on Wednesdays and have set the pay period to be Thursday through Wednesday.

I am going to do a short payroll for Sunday through Wednesday this week (to catch up to the change) and then do the new scheduled payroll week of Thursday through Wednesday for the following week.

I think this is going to really fit much nicer with our flow.

Thank you, @TheRealChipA .  As always. 👏

@BofBArtStudio One thing there doesn’t make sense.  Direct deposits are NOT made on the last day of a pay period.  In my case my scheduling week ends on Sunday, I run payroll Monday, and direct deposits are on Friday.  There’s at least one day between payroll and deposits, even on the fastest payroll schedule.

When I set it up for Wednesday pay day, it shows that I run payroll every Thursday.  Then direct deposit comes in the following Wednesday for the team.

It is basically four business days after payroll is run that the direct deposits come in.

So if you run payroll on Monday then four business days later is Friday.

And that's how I have had it set up for all these years.

Now that I changed it to a Wednesday payday, it shows that I have to run payroll every Thursday and then if you count four business days after Thursday it ends up being a Wednesday payday for direct deposit.

It is a bit confusing at first. It took me a little while to really wrap my head around it when I was adjusting all the settings in Square.

I’m with you there.  I haven’t looked at mine since I set it up.  But I do remember having to waste a few brain cells on it, initially! Ha.

I have been working with the new updated schedule for a couple weeks now and here's the problem...

I set direct deposit day to be Wednesday.  Payroll is run on Thursday before 8:00 p.m PST.

I set The scheduled work week to be Monday through Sunday.

Everything is good until I run payroll on Thursday and then Square automatically updates my scheduled work week to be Thursday through Wednesday.

So I guess you cannot have a different schedule week than the pay period week.

Since we have blocks of events that are Monday through Thursday and then other blocks of events that are Friday Saturday Sunday, we like to have that schedule to be Monday through Sunday.

But then as far as payroll, we wanted to have direct deposit go in on Wednesday for our team members and therefore have the pay period be Thursday through Wednesday.

I think you and I both assumed that the schedule week and the pay period week could be different because they are different settings, and you even mentioned it in your other response where we talked about those two being different and the different use cases for it.

But it appears that square doesn't allow The schedule week and the pay week to be different.
