Hi,
For our alcoholic drinks, we have age restriction turned on and set to 21+ but when someone buys an alcohol drink at the register, it does not prompt our staff to check ID. We're using the square restaurant register.

Hi there @MPDC 👋 Are you running Square for Restaurants or Square for Retail on your Square Register?
While you can set age restrictions on items in your Item library, the prompts for age verification are only available on the Square for Retail POS App. To use this feature, you would need to be using the Square for Retail POS App on an iPad or iPhone running the latest version of iOS.

Hello @MPDC thanks for your post. I would check each age restricted item, I don't know if you can set this "globally" for every sale, so you may need to edit each item. There should be an option to edit the item (drink, etc.) and mark it as age restricted. Here's the step by step:
Set an age restriction
Sign in to your Square Dashboard and click Items & orders > Items > Item Library.
Click Create item or select an existing item.
Click Set next to Age restriction.
By default, you will have three options for an age restriction:
Buyer must be 18+
Buyer must be 19+
Buyer must be 21+
Choose a minimum age restriction, then click Set.
You can also set up a custom age restriction. Click Custom and input your chosen age, then click Set.
Hopefully this will help with your issue. Maybe another seller more familiar with Square for Restaurants can offer better solutions instead of editing each item.

Hi,
yes, I understand how to enable it — we have it turned on for each item and we have double and triple checked. Yet it does not prompt our staff at the register to verify ID for those items where age restriction has been set.

We are using square for restaurants.
Curious - why wouldn't this be available for square for restaurants? We are a cafe/coffee shop and we serve alcohol.
