Why Does My Banner Image Zoom After clicking Edit -> Improve Readability?

Hi Square Team,

I’ve noticed that whenever I upload a banner image in Square Online, it initially fits well. But as soon as I click “Edit” and change the “Improve Readability” setting (to help make text more visible), the image becomes noticeably zoomed in, and parts of it get cropped.

Can you please clarify:

  1. Why does adjusting the "Improve Readability" slider cause the image to zoom?

  2. Is this an intentional behavior to maintain layout or contrast for text?

  3. Is there any way to prevent the zooming or retain the original image scale while still adjusting readability?

I want the image to stay fully visible and not get cropped, but I also want to maintain good readability for text. Any best practices or workarounds would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi there @SivaKrish This is an issue that messes me up every time I change background images -- and indeed images in general.  First, here's a link to a Square help document on image best practices and editing, etc.  Now... main banners are rectangular.  I've found that resizing rectangular images to 2000px by 1000px (or some multiple thereof) works best.  Does it ALWAYS work?  Ha.  But it's a good starting point.  I often find that I have to play with resizing images (using something like Photoshop) until I get it right.

Was my post helpful? Take a moment to mark it as a possible "best answer." I hate the term, and wish we could just mark posts as "helpful." But this is our only mechanism at the moment. Just remember "Best answer" should be interpreted as "helpful," and nothing more. LOL. "Best" (ugh) answers help folks possibly find solutions to similar problems they are hoping to solve.
