Ohio Sales Tax being collected for Square online pickup orders

I am stumped with this and would appreciate some help and guidance.

 

In Ohio, there is no Sales Tax to be charged for any pickup or delivery orders placed in person or online (DoorDash, Uber Eats, Square, etc.). 

 

For my restaurant, this is working fine for orders placed through DD and UE. However, for pickup orders placed directly on our Square site, a sales tax is getting charged. I have tried both options below, and both are resulting in collection of sales tax:

This is how our in-person rates are set up:

I have a tax exemption set up:

And then I have everything but "For Here" selected as exempt from this tax:

Incidentally, when an order is placed as a Delivery on the Square site, no sales tax is being charged. 

 

What am I doing wrong? Anybody in Ohio who faced similar situations? TIA!

Thanks for reaching out—and I totally understand how frustrating this can be. I appreciate you already trying different configurations, and I’m happy to help get this resolved. We recommend checking the following information : 

 

Check Location Settings on Your Square Online Site

Go to Online > Settings > Pickup & Delivery and select your location. Ensure:

  • The pickup settings are configured with a valid address in Ohio.

  • “Charge sales tax” isn’t manually enabled within this specific location setup.

  • Some settings can override your tax rules depending on how fulfillment is configured.

If you’ve already tried all of the above and the tax is still being charged, it’s possible there’s a conflict between the default Square Online behavior and your custom tax rules. With that info, I can escalate this to make sure we identify exactly what’s happening and help get it fixed.

Hi Ellie_,

I am not seeing the "Pickup & Delivery" option when I go to Online > Settings > . Is there another way of getting there? Thanks!

Sorry we missed your post @tiffinbitesoh !

 

Can you try going to your online Square Dashboard > Settings > Account & Settings > Fulfillment methods? Alternatively, you can try using this link to access it
